Wheels/axles in or out
« on: August 22, 2018, 12:53:39 AM »
Just because Ive been trying to get some skating back in my schedule and figured out after all the madness of products and sizes what actually works for me(deck size, truck size, wheel duro, shoe fit)

What do you guys prefer? Your wheels/axle sticking out the sides of your deck or under

I like flipping my board so keeping the axles under for prime flip-ability for me

With Snake on this.

They have to be perfectly aligned (not that it matters though, I still suck ass at skating)

I ride Indy 149s and will skate boards anywhere from 8”-8.5” and sometimes even the big Polar shapes. I don’t think about it much though, so it doesn’t really bother me either way. I’m sure my post will be very helpful.

axles flush with the board so the wheels are slightly in.

Do you mean the actual edge of the wheels or the end of the axle? My axles stick out a tiny bit more than the wheels.

If I can look down and see axles or wheels, there is a problem.

For years I only under. 8 inch trucks on an 8.25 board for example. I've recently started going out and it just feels way better, to me anyway. 8.5 trucks on 8.25, 8.75 trucks on an 8.5 inch board. It's only .25th of a difference but in my head it feels more stable.

edge of the wheels, I don't fuck with thin wheels so the nuts(flush too with axles) are invisible to the human eye, 149mm with classics full on 8.25 !

Street I like the wheels slightly tucked in. Tranny I like the wheels flush (so axles slightly longer).

has anyone experiences with Indy 144's on 8.125 decks? I'm thinking about it but not sure.

So a lot of you guys like it stable and smooth

I did that too and

has anyone experiences with Indy 144's on 8.125 decks? I'm thinking about it but not sure.

I had that kind of setup, krooked 8.12 with thunder 148 and it felt nice, kinda thin so flips weren’t hard but good stability with the 8.25 trucks that weigh less than a full man size 8.5

149s on an 8.25 is heaven

This is what I'm on now. I love it, but I might settle on 8.38 eventually. 8.25 is the bomb, but sometimes my size 12 feet make feel like I'm on my toes.

Not sure if it's just a psych thing, but having the axles just slightly stick out beyond the rail makes things feel more stable when running things loose. Deck flush with the wheels, and nuts/axle slightly over feels the best IMO.

I've run Indy 144's and currently Thunder 148 Team Hollow Lights on 8.125-8.25's.

Flush axle and stable with both. Obviously a tad lower and lighter with Thunders...

Always been flush or slightly in for me, but I am tempted to try Thunder 148s on an 8.125 since people say they're better than 147s in some ways.

I've done 8.38 on 149s for my "small" setup for a while now

wheels stay flush and the axles poke out slightly, works real well with the DLX full shapes, but other pointier shapes works too

thanks for the response mate. I can only ride thunders with risers that's why I'm gettin Indy's. Fit perfectly for 54 mm wheels

If I can look down and see axles or wheels, there is a problem.

I think in one of the early nine club episodes, they talk about Koston riding a setup with his wheels poking out a little bit.

I’ve tried it once and it felt like it fucked up my flip tricks a little.  I’m sure I would have gotten used to it eventually, but said fuck it and went back to flush.

Ha!
8.38 Real Full w/ 149s on 55mm wheels feel huge to me! I have one set up that has pretty much just become the homie board.

I have a weird fear of skating and seeing the axle nut/wheel underneath me. I randomly tried setting up my 149s on a 7.75 thinking it would not be a huge deal. Terrible idea.

Ace 44 on 8.25, so the axle must stick out a little (8.35 width according Ace website).
Wheels are flush.

I use to be very strict about that my trucks had to be flush/smaller than my board but few yrs ago I got 149’s for dirt cheap so I gave them a try on 8.25” board and nothing bad happened so I dunno...

148's on an 8.25 full shape, 52mm v5's, the nut is flush with the edge and the wheel is slightly inside, its just an all round good set up.

I had indy 139's on an 8, 8.125, 8.25.. They were chill on the smaller sizes but once I switched on 8.25 decks they kinda felt unstable going fast or on transitions.
