Skateboarding of big decks?
« on: August 25, 2018, 01:02:15 PM »
With the recent revival of baggy pants and puffy shoes, I'm wondering if it's only a matter of time before deck sizes start to come back down to the early 2000's sizes. Haven't seen any evidence of this but curious to see if people think it will happen. Thoughts?

with the advent of 8.25 Indy and thunder, I’d say 8.25 is becoming the new standard, which is a comfortable split

7.75 trucks are basically toy sized, but a 7.875 deck is a cozy on 8” trucks
I don’t see many people going down to 7.75 unless they skate no tranny whatsoever

Only for those too scared to drop in.  8.25 is good if you can't flip it that's on you.

my experience with decks smaller than 8" is a lot of rolled ankles.  Might have been ill fitting footwear but I don't have this problem anymore with 8.25".  I can flip them fine with hollow Indys

I think a lot of it comes down to how big you are, your shoe size and what you're looking to skate.

i used to ride as small as 7.3 back in the day, but now 8.3 feels tiny.  can't imagine going any smaller than that.

Nah. I skated 7.875 for the last 5 years or so and everybody would look at it funny.

Recently I stepped up to an 8. Haven't decided if I'm sticking to it or not.

It all comes down to smaller wheel base (14-14.125) for flipping an 8.25+ easier, at least for me it does

I think is going to happen. I do think some kids are skating ridiculous size boards
How kader does it I have no idea.

8.00 8.25 depending on ur size is perfect Street/park board to me

but hey  If your a decent skateboarder u gonna know what feels right for you

I am not skating something like 8.5+ it just does not feel right
Works for others though..

Same here. Lost a lot of flip tricks, but the tricks I still have are MUCH higher.
Can't really decide...

8.0"+ boards are going to stick around for at least little while longer, but I know I've personally been wanting to take it back down to 7.75 or so. Sucks though, all of the board companies I'd rather support don't make skinny decks these days.

Which (good) brands even currently put out <8.0"s?

Also, Ice Cream style shoes are def coming back on trend soon. Bet.

You guys have to understand too was the narrow board happened for a reason.....it was easier to flip your board around....guys aren't really skating like that the same way.  Or if you can....you don't need any help.  Also...no one wants to size down trucks....

The wheels makes sense though because its super common now where people skate wheels down well under 50mm, then they have to buy new wheels and they are usually 53mm plus which is a big jump up.

I remember going from riding 7.75 back in the day and finally making the decision to go to 8 and it felt as if I went from being in a blow up boat to then being on the titanic! Now i even find riding an 8.5 to be quite small!

I usually ride 8.6-8.75, have a us9 shoe size and skate a bit of everything

I always find it a lot harder going down a board size than it is going up!

I have been skating for years and have been slow as death with size ups. Took me a while just to ride size 8's. Don't think im going to go up from that

I hope 8.00”+ sticks around forever. If they ever stop making 8.38x14.5” then I’m going to shit a whole house.
