I've been on an 8.5 for about 11 years. There have been a few 8.3s in there but 8.5 is what works for me. I'd be real heartbroken if their availability started to disappear.

Im also in the double digit years skating 8.5s. All my hometown has is a zumiez and they only get like 2 8.5s a month which is super dank cuz 3 out of the 7 skateboarders in this town skate 8.5s. Ordering boards is so annoying.

I rode a friends 9 for like three days. Thing felt so fucked.

People at the local will consistently act shocked about my riding a 'tiny' 8.0 but damn if I remember even one older skate homie from my childhood riding anything above that. Still trips me out

Even when 7.75 was standard i rode big boards. Thin boards are just uncomfortable to me , my foot sticks out too much.

I always rode an 8, lowest I went was a 7.75 Workshop around '04. Started going up about 3 years ago. I'm on an 8.75 at the moment,  but definitely dropping back to an 8.5 next board, along with narrower trucks. Backside grinds on pool coping slip out too easily when I've got 9" of truck hanging back into the bowl. I would like to find an 8.5 with a 15" wheelbase.

Just need to find something like that down under. Most brands make 8.5 x 14.75 their long wb

8,18 with a square nose is perfect for me and my foot size is 8,5.

I think i'm the only one in this board who dont care about wheel bases

I love ride on a 7.9, but my homie give me free 8. 8 is good but, for my flip tricks, flick and my quick feet 7.9 is perfect.

It’s funny how people say they ride bigger boards coz they are old
I ride smaller boards because I’m old and that’s what I grew up skating so it feels right

Preference is interesting but you really can’t be faulted on it

Yep.
Anything over a 7.75" feels too big.

Powell / Mini Logo have their 181 shape which is an 8.5 w 15".  I'm skating one as my pool board and it has a nice steep concave.  The Mini Logo wood may not be as nice as BBS, but right now you can get them for $20 each if you buy at least two.   https://www.skateone.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=bomb&soc_deck_mold%5B0%5D=K15&soc_deck_width_range%5B0%5D=8.50%22

NOTE:  Their newer 8.5 uses their mellower concave and has a 14.375 wb.  It's not a shape I dig at all.

Vert is so fucking fun.  I would have done anything to grow up around all these parks that had transition, if you aren't taking advantage you're blowing it.  Learning airs on vert is just as fun as ledge dancing on your 7.75" I promise.

20 years on the board here, from Chile.

Always felt the board size should be related to your height and shoe size.
Big dudes, big boards; small shoes, small board and so on

I'm 6 feet tall, US 9 shoe
always skated 7.75 as kid
got into 8.0 around 5 years ago, mainly cause you couldn´t  find smaller boards here (the good ones of course)

been using 8.1 and US 9 NewBalance 868's for 1 1/2 years, my flatground its on point on this setup
tried bigger boards (8.25) a few times but can't make 360 flips or my classic flat game, same happens when I skate on slim shoes (adidas adiease or vans)

nah, big boards are more comfy and tricks look burlier.

that said, this thread makes me want to set up something just under eight with the lightest thunders and little wheels.  just to have around.

You haven't lived until you've landed a nice kickflip on a modest 9" Creature.

That's the feeling of true accomplishment.

I feel much safer on a wider board. I tried skating a 7.6 Toy Machine board I got as a present and ate shit on a regular basis, rolled my ankles over and over. I fall way less trying the same stuff on my 8.375 deck.
I can’t flip my new board but I’m working on my no complies and bonelesses

Looking at Polar’s P9 shape (8.625) as a possible next board.

I'm with you. I never pay attention to wheelbase. Length of nose & tail, sure, but I couldn't tell you what kind of wheelbase I have on my board, and it's the fourth same board in a row.

Maybe we should pay attention.

I have a 9 and a bit PHAWT shaped Girl and it is super fun for rolling in the cut and doing mob flips on but keep my trusty 8 on hand for stunts.
It is messing me up a bit with sloppy foot placement and sketch landings but both hands down double revert tic-tac landings still count, right?
