Groin/inner thigh strain/tear
« on: August 28, 2018, 05:37:49 PM »
Bombed a hill the other day without realizing how fast id end up going by the end, heading towards a culdesac with a fence. felt i was going way too fast to try to powerslide so i jumped off and the second my left foot touched the ground i felt an instant burning/pulling pain near my groin and inner thigh. Its been a week now and gotten some what better. Ive been taking some vitamins/herbs to decrease the inflammation, plus rubbing eucalyptus and lemon grass essential oil on it. Iced the first 3-4 days. I recently discovered arnica and its felt increasingly better but its definitely still bruised and im concerned it might be fucked. Can groins/inner thighs be ruined beyond repair? Honestly worried a little bit and ive been through some pretty serious injuries. This one just doesnt sit well for some reason.

I did have a similar experience with my adductor muscle, often a strain of that is confused for the groin.
It's tough to strengthen and often with skating it is neglected because of the  nature of skating and the way we use our body. Muscles need time, no matter the amount of homeopathic remedies,  it often just needs a substantial amount of rest(if that is the case).
I know I was having issues with my body being out of whack, just one part stronger than the other.
But really going to a doctor of some type is probably your best option if possible.

used to play ice hockey and groin injuries are extremely common. I wrecked mine at the end of one season and it took forever to get right. Rest it, for real, don't fuck around because like everyone has already said it will linger for a long time. it may look silly but a groin stabilizer that wraps around your waste and the thigh of the affected groin is a life saver when you're trying to recover. Also, ice it, just accept the shrinkage haha

Can anyone tell me what are some serious warning signs i should be looking out for? Im not sure if something is torn/pulled and dont want to waste money on dr visits only to find out all i had to do was stay off and ice. But this is the process.

Just make sure you don't have any spots bulging out in odd places down there, that would probably indicate a hernia

I have a bulge on my thigh but not so much on my groin. The bulge doesnt hurt as
Much. Theres a pinpoint spot that hurts the most near my groin.

Also should i avoid stretching? Not that it feels great or gives me a great deal of pain. I just do it to see if my motion is better and less stiff.

Point of impact is probably some type of contusion on the muscle, forming a knot of sorts.
If you don't have a foam roller I highly recommend getting one.
Lot's of youtube vids on correctly using it.
I have an extremely knobby one that is hard that works wonders.
But again I stress, go see a physical therapist/physician.

I have two different foam rollers and i honestly didnt know if it would harm the affected area. Working on seeing a doctor. But with insurance you have to get a  referral  from your general practitioner. At least how mine works. Would love to just go see a specialist immedietely. Hence why im asking all these questions because im scared and trying to get answers before i even see someone

I understand. It is quite the process to even see a specialist of any type. Might be worth paying for a massage to get some insight on how to help relieve the affected area.
Good luck with everything.

Dang, this hits close to home! Here's what I found helped in my case:

I tore a muscle in my groin/inner thigh when I was a kid, but didn't really know to have it checked out, etc. I'm goofy, and it was my right leg, so my front leg.

Every once and a while when skating, I'd get a sharp pain between my leg and groin, usually when lifting my knee up towards my chest (like during an ollie).

The key I found was stretching, specifically after skating. Stretching regularly is never a bad thing, but because that's such a core muscle group used in skating, it really helps to stretch right after the sesh, so it doesn't tighten up.

I'd recommend doing a lunge-type quadricep stretch, and also the "butterfly" stretch sometimes. Personally, I'll spend a few solid minutes doing that lunge stretch immediately after every sesh, and it's made a world of difference.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Ah you guys are the best. Thanks a ton. Ive actually gotten heavily into stretching and yoga the last few months as well as stretching before and after sessions for quite some time. Which is why this whole thing makes me think i may have done some serious damage because i wanna say i was going really fuckin fast. I could have at least hit 30mph and came to a sudden stop on my left leg.
