By god does this look fun, you always skate this shape?

No I usually skate 8.5 to 8.75 pops, sometimes shaped boards. Got this for $44 and had the wheels and trucks lying around and decided to get nostalgic. It is fun but very different feeling especially with 3/8" risers. slappies like a dream.

Really hyped on art's Hjalte board and all the setups in this thread for that matter.  Was given this lightly used deck at Tompkins a few weeks ago and just now set it up:

8.25 Cyrus Bennet 917(14.5" wheelbase)
Independent 149 Hollows(w/aftermarket black conicals)
Spitfire 58mm Classics(worn to around 53mm by now)
Bones Reds
Bender Allen Hardware
Can't wait to skate this & really miss New York.
All you got is today, get out and skate.

Thanks.

Unfortunately it’s laminate. It’s really slippery. Hazardous to walk-in socks. Dogs have no grip, couch slides if you sit on it too hard.

Looks nice though.

Wheels are great.  I used to only skate skinny wheels but I've been cruising in bowls more so the extra grip is nice

8.25" OG
148 Team Hollows (stock bushings, riptide cups)
52mm F4 classics
Swiss Six
Mob M80
Thunder bolts

Already put some hours on it, feels very comfy and much flippier/pointier/less full than what I've been running but wanted to change it up from bigger wheels, taller trucks, longer deck/WB; will probably go back to the B2 shape after this one is done for a bit more concave/fullness but not full full likeDLX/NHS.

Think it would be worth it for rough asphalt to upgrade from 51mm 100a F1 classics to the 99a F4 conical fulls in 53? I know you said you skate bowls but I wonder if they'd be good for street as well

I skate both equally bad but the wider wheels are just fine on street.  A little more stick on nose and tail slides but no big deal

Riptide cups are fantastic, if pricey, in any truck (just like Khiros would be if they fit); I'm using the Indy riptides, they're the same shape as thunder cups (perhaps a bit taller on the hanger as thunder cups sit lower and one either indy or thunder have a flat or pointed bottom) but they squish in and reform just fine and are still flush with the top of the pivot cavity.

They're higher quality (all stock cups suck, they're stiff and cheap and plasticiky) and each truck I use them in (Theeve, Indy, Thunder, Ace) all feel smoother.

Genuinely curious; what is the benefit of swapping out stock cups for these replacements? Is it an overall improvement in the quality of the turn, better response? I've never really thought about swapping them out before but the amount of people doing that on here have peaked my interest.

I've actually only got one day on them. Since I setup this board, I've been plagued with rain, I went out of town. I did skate yesterday, but I'm a little pissed at how heavy this CityStars deck is. The plys are thicker than like a dwindle or BBS.

Anyway, for one day out on the wheels. I got 101a but they still felt too grippy, but thats just a day one impression

Most pivot cups are rock hard cheap plastic bits much like how some stock bushings are of low quality. Usually, replacement/aftermarket parts of better build quality and materials (think Indy aftermarket bushings).

Riptides say they are infused with some lubrication,....you can feel the difference compared to a stock cup just on your fingertips it's smoother, a bit more malleable - they feel like a quality product.

I feel all trucks benefit from them as the turns feel smoother a bit more fluid - much like bushings, the softer you go the less rigid they feel- they also last longer (at least in my ACEs and Indys); if you ride tight I doubt you'd really get any benefit other than longevity.
