Studio 8.25
Indy Ti 144 w/ aftermarket Indy bushings
F4 101 Classics
Swiss 6
Mob and random hardware

I was wanting to switch it up.  I was really tempted to grab a Quasi, and even though I've never had issues with the 3 I've ridden, all the PS Stix QC talk of late made me go a different route.  First time skating anything from Control, but I'm liking it so far.  I also went from Radial Slims to Classics, and the Classic's feel slower in comparison.

Were this slims f4? I got a set of sml wheels and they feel like crap compared to the lock ins that are f4s.
That’s a clean looking set up . Where’s studio from ?

8.25" OG
148 Team Hollows (stock bushings, riptide cups)
52mm F4 classics
Swiss Six
Mob M80
Thunder bolts

Already put some hours on it, feels very comfy and much flippier/pointier/less full than what I've been running but wanted to change it up from bigger wheels, taller trucks, longer deck/WB; will probably go back to the B2 shape after this one is done for a bit more concave/fullness but not full full likeDLX/NHS.

[close]

How are the pivot cups compared to the stock Thunders?

[close]

Riptide cups are fantastic, if pricey, in any truck (just like Khiros would be if they fit); I'm using the Indy riptides, they're the same shape as thunder cups (perhaps a bit taller on the hanger as thunder cups sit lower and one either indy or thunder have a flat or pointed bottom) but they squish in and reform just fine and are still flush with the top of the pivot cavity.

They're higher quality (all stock cups suck, they're stiff and cheap and plasticiky) and each truck I use them in (Theeve, Indy, Thunder, Ace) all feel smoother.
[close]

Genuinely curious; what is the benefit of swapping out stock cups for these replacements? Is it an overall improvement in the quality of the turn, better response? I've never really thought about swapping them out before but the amount of people doing that on here have peaked my interest.
[close]

Most pivot cups are rock hard cheap plastic bits much like how some stock bushings are of low quality. Usually, replacement/aftermarket parts of better build quality and materials (think Indy aftermarket bushings).

Riptides say they are infused with some lubrication,....you can feel the difference compared to a stock cup just on your fingertips it's smoother, a bit more malleable - they feel like a quality product.

I feel all trucks benefit from them as the turns feel smoother a bit more fluid - much like bushings, the softer you go the less rigid they feel- they also last longer (at least in my ACEs and Indys); if you ride tight I doubt you'd really get any benefit other than longevity.

This right here^

Riptide Indy cracked ice in Theeves is the best.

Ahhh okay! I guess I've never really considered the quality of pivot cups haha. I just picked up a set of Ace 44s today and the pivot cup fell out while I was swapping out bushings, picking it up I could absolutely see a benefit from grabbing something, such as the Riptides, that are a bit more malleable. Definitely going to look into grabbing some.

Thanks to both of ya for your input, Xen and Firebert, much appreciated!

Sure am, haven’t touched my trucks to replace them in over a year, first set of trucks I’ve had that happen on

Had my first session on it yesterday and it was great.  a few notes -

This is the 3rd Big Boy that I've skated.  The first two were on Indy's and while I loved the shape, the 14" WB was not working for me with Indy's.

I've been back on Thunder for about 6 weeks now and had a feeling that the shorter WB might work with them so I picked this up.  I was right, the board feels perfect now.  easy to flick around (I'm terrible at flip tricks) but stable in the bowl, on manuals and great pop.

The nose and tail are really long (both 7"+) so it doesn't feel like a short board.  Indy's work for Chico because I'm guessing he's about 5'9 but I couldn't do it being 6'.

let me know if you have any other questions on it

I've got to try one of those some point soon, mainly b/c Chico's IG is so damn inspiring. 149s?

Think I'll use my 151s...

Chico's damn IG stories are what always make me go back to it.  As if I'm suddenly going to set one up and be able to nollie back heel.

I'm running 149's on it as does Chico but 151/159's would work great as well

I made it with the thunder lights that have a giant logo, works great but they will have a matte/dirty finish (better than a logo or color IMO)
