Studied today for 11 hours and listened to a lot of stuff that helps me focus as well as drowns out the fucking rooster that my yuppie neighbors decided to get.

This album:

And this album:

And a ton of other stuff that I can't remember.

Been on a sort of pop-punkish kick lately. What the fuck is wrong with me?

Full credit goes to my girlfriend who turned off whatever I was playing when some pals were over the other night and put on that Jerusalem song. She may have also called me a bitch while doing it.

New Crystal Castles.

I already posted this in things im stoked on, but I wanted to post it here in case anyone else is a fan and has anything to say.

I was pretty shocked when I saw this come up on soundcloud yesterday since I thought they were done for sure after alice left. if you read what ethan wrote, he sorta came off like a bitter asshole saying people always gave alice credit for his lyrics and that she didnt sing on their biggest songs. i dont agree with what he said, but the new song is really fucking sick and thats good enough for me. im really excited to see if he puts out another album and how it will sound compared to the others.

anyone else a big CC fan? thoughts?

I met Claudio back when he was in that terrible band Kill Cheerleader. Nice enough guy, I guess. Crystal Castles is definitely a joke in whatever music scene exists in Toronto, though. Wrong Hole even spoofed them on the back cover of a record they put out last year:

Probably because they got very successful very quickly. Toronto is a really commercial city and all art suffers as a result. Really too bad.

I bought this for myself today and am listening to it now:

Early-to-mid-80's minimal techno and all good.

^ I could see that. There was a huge difference in the crowd from the first time I saw them and the most recent time I saw them. You can't be cool when the swagged out fuccbois are front row at your show.

I still think their sick though and all their success is disserved. I think they've kept their integrity throughout the years as well. There's hundreds of shitty electronic groups now who all sounds the same and are popular as hell, but I don't think CC really bit anyone else's sound. they've had plenty of copy cats though.

My dad took my Grandmother to the concert that happened to be the first time The Grateful Dead would ever perform this song live at the Philly Spectrum in the 90's (20 years after the release of the album). Story goes that there was so much crowd reaction while they were playing it that my Grandma went to my dad and said "Why are they booing him? It's not his fault he can't sing"

Been listening to alot of Husker Du lately. I used to dig them a lot at the end of college, and always thought they were WAY ahead of their time.

This is my favorite song off Zen Arcade - so I looked it into a little more and found this out:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq0J22kAFE0&list=PLZVCiDcSBlciyIZ8uudeto_82nvaVOMSr&index=18

Originally released as a double album on two vinyl LP's, Zen Arcade tells the story of a young boy who runs away from an unfulfilling home life, only to find the world outside is even worse. The album incorporates elements of jazz, psychedelia, acoustic folk, pop, and piano interludes, concepts rarely touched on in the world of hardcore punk.

These were just punk kids in 84 squatting a church in St. Paul Minnesota - but man, their songs speak about shit 30 years later so clearly...

Divide and Conquer is so good too...again, ahead of it's time.

Yeah, if you're into this I would recommend checking out their other stuff (obviously) and also Defiance Ohio and anything else that falls under the umbrella of folk-punk

The first forum I joined was a mars volta forum back when I was 18. I was so obsessed with that band that it became almost too much for me to handle. I spent so much time trying to learn about their music and the meaning of the lyrics and it became so exhausting. After that phase I got into gangsta rap because I felt like it was the furthest thing from the mars volta.

Great story right?
