Pretty sure Bucky did the first 720 to fakie.

Interesting, the list of people who have made 720s is still short, even after almost 20 years. These are the names I can come up with

Hawk
McGill
Shaun White
Lasek
Zattoni
Sandro Dias

anyone else?

Thats maybe half of the vert pros population, so it's an ample list. Jake Brown i think did a tailgrab 720 on Bob's ramp, fakie to forward..

a gay twist is a frontside cab mute. I don't think anybody has done a fakie frontside 720.

a gay twist is just a caballerial where your grab mute.  lance invented it cuz he couldn't do cabs.  late ron tony hawk started taking them frontside.  he also did allie oop frontside cabs over the channel in like '86.

I was under the impression a gay twist was a frontside cab. Neil Blender and Lance Mountain were trying frontside cabs and they figured they couldn't do them without a grab. They thought it was "gay" and it was known as a gay twist.

I could have sworn they could do cabs the normal way but frontside cabs they had to grab. Has ANYBDOY else heard this? Vert fucking confuses me. I can't tell any of those goddamn inverts apart.

from wikipedia:

"Gay Twist
Similar to a Caballerial; the difference being that the board is grabbed, whereas the Caballeria is performed without touching the board with the hands. Invented by Lance Mountain and Neil Blender, supposedly because they couldn't do Caballerials."

in terms of frontside cabs, or frontside gay twists, i'm pretty confident the only 80s pro that could do them was tony hawk.  that is some hard shit.

fyi-the les twist is when the baord is grabbed backside instead of mute.

this stuff happenned in 1980, 4 years before the first mctwist, and 6 years before tony hawk started spinning cabs and gay twists frontside.

Thanks for the knowledge. I wouldn't trust wikipedia on its own, but you clearly know what you are talking about. Can you give me any insight to the inverts? I think an andrecht is grabbed melon and done backside, but thats about all, and I'm probably wrong on that too.

sure thing

backside inverts:

andrecht-backside grab, trailing hand planted on coping.

smith vert- mute grab,, trailing hand planted on coping

tucknee-mute grab, tweaked back like a japan air, trailing hand planted on coping

sadplant-mute grab, frontleg straight, trailing hand planted on coping

eggplant-indy grab, leading hand planted on coping

mcegg-indy grab, leading hand planted on coping, flip over and spin coming out straight.

i think elguerials are backside but i can't remebr exactly what they look like.

then there was the new deal, the good buddy, the jolly mamaba sex change varial, but i'm crusty and can't remember.

frontside inverts and handplants.

frontside handplant-frontside grab, leading hand planted on coping

layback air-mute grab, trailing hand planted on coping

unit-mute grab, 540 spin, trailing hand pushes off the wass or coping.  tony hawk altered this and invented the rodeo flip by first changing to a frontside grab, and then not touching the coping.

miller flip-frontside grab, leading hand planted on coping, over rotate, and come out fakie

ok, and elguerial is a fakie 360 invert, turning backside.

then there was the far radder phillips 66, which was a fakie 360 invert but turning frontside. jeff phillips ruled.  he also did the phillps 33, which was just 180.  it occurs to me now that this trick probably showed tony the possibility of the frontside gay twist.

the only one i could ever do was the layback air.  it's far easier than any of the others, and that's probably why steve alba said anyone who did that trick was a fucking fag.

still, hosoi made them look rad, rad, rad.

you wanna see some rad shit?  watch the delmar 1985 contest clips on youtube.

burntwist- its an eggplant revert. Of course I don't know what an eggplant is really, but I'm pretty sure thats what it is.

Also, I was under the impression that philips 66 is one of the hardest tricks to do on vert. I remember a big brother caption saying Tony Hawk can't do them and that they had to do some other trick in reverse for the motion capture of that one for the video game.

one of the more interesting ones was the hessian roll invented by steve schneer....it's a ho-ho...but while in ho-ho position...you walk away from the coping...then you grab your board like a normal invert....now here's the interesting part...you go into a front roll...land on your ass...then ride in!

Ok, so is Alex Olson doing a layback air in the transworld am interview? It says frontside invert but it looks like he is grabbing mute if I remember correctly.

Also, if this is true, should I now dislike him in a way others dislike Josh Kasper for doing a benihanna off a launch ramp in Trilogy?
