i hate eating shit on gaps while skating by my lonesome. getting hurt alone is, well.....lonely. therefore i try to keep it transitions/manual pads/built it yourself type spots alone.

i skate probably 50/50 with and without friends, with friends is funner to just skate and string things together, when im by myself i concentrate more on trying to progress or improve smaller aspects.

also just came back from a  solo session, and i dont know why ive never done it before, put my speakers on my car and blasted music, made it a good time.
we toked a marley and i split back to the park, minding my own busineess when a rollerblader mean mugs..i let it go.

Personally I see people who refuse to skate alone as having a lack of dedication.
I realize it's more fun and all that but if you can't get out to skate a spot by yourself that means you arent getting out much, sometimes if at all since schedules get tougher and tougher to line up as you get older.
These are also the same people that get to the spot and skate for 15 minutes, get bored and start breaking shit or fucking with whoever is skating. Or they just talk about how wasted/stoned they are getting later.

true that...

what's funny to me, it's that this year that i have been skating alone the most (it's good for filming manuals too), there is so many new spots popping up and i'll be the firs one to skate them (if not the only one)...

but seriously... it gets annoying having to wait for 30 min for others to show up...

although, a crew of 3 or 4 is the best!

Skating alone can be good, if it's a real chill spot like someone pointed out. Like going out on those cold days that no one else is really skating, you have the usually crowded parks all for yourself. But I think it's gets old pretty quick. Like 45 min and you're done.

But nothing beats skating with your friends. I'm lucky to have a real good crew of older dudes like myself, all skating pretty much on the same level, so we like the same spots. Everybody's super into skating so we go out like 4-5 times a week. The only thing I miss about being 10 years younger are the legs. Now I need to stretch and shit if I want to skate the next day. And I fucking hate that shit. Other than that, there's nothing wrong with getting old. We drive nice cars, we have money for gas and to travel etc. So thirties but so good.

Skating all alone is fun, but going to a spot or park and dealing with 5 other people sucks.
I have to skate alone most of the time, because I study in a rather small city and I'm the only student who skates. There are a couple of wigger kids who skate,, but that's about it I guess. pretty sad.

Good thing is, I got into bombing hills, which is a very enjoyable thing to do alone, unless you don't eat shit.

i find skating alone really boring, i feel like i'm in a gym training for something... usually if my friends aren't skating, i rather go and do whatever they are doing than skating alone. if i'm really desperate to skate i will go on my own to the local park, but its a small park where we all know each other so you always end up skating with somebody.

used to skate with gub all the time when he lived here.........along with JunglePop, but then Junglepop had to go and break his ankle

now, Im skating alone almost exclusively, unless I go to an actual 'spot' around town and other kids are skating there

it's not the worst, but it's also not the best

I skate alone about 60% of the time. Mostly during the week i skate by myself at the local skatepark next to my house (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfw96Rm2pEs) When i started all the friends i had were well into skating for maybe 2 - 3 years then they all started to stop and go onto other things like biking, drinking, getting stoned lol and then i lost contact with them. Now its just me and 4 others who skate. 2 of them skate maybe once a month and the other two skate every weekend for a little while then complain and we go back to my mates house for couple of hours and play loads of fifa which gets real boring. i guess im pretty addicted to skating!

I love skating by myself because I hate having to organize and meet up with people.  I also skate for bordem's sake a lot of the time and when I am visiting family out of town I love slipping out to go skate by myself. I think I am just a fly solo kind of guy though, when I was into going to bars and clubs it was the same thing. I didn't like going out in a group because I want to leave when I am ready and go where I want, kind of thing. I skate EZ7 mostly and there are always people up there who I know in one way or another but most of the time I zone out to music on my IPod and when I don't feel like skating anymore I split.

I also think that if you don't enjoy skating alone, it gets tricky to be a lifer unless you have a really cool wife and a crew of lifer friends near by.

Right now for example, I'm traveling on a business trip with my wife in Atlanta. She's busy all day and if I didn't like skating by myself then I would have missed out on skating this spot...

Almost everyday. My homies are all grown out of it. They'll get away from their routine and skate with me but it's rare. When I'm not by myself, it's at a park. Skateboarding is about more than parks (IMO). You'll see youngbuck, one day the homies start getting GFs and cars, etc, etc. If you don't skate solo, you don't skate. I skate.

Friends are good. But sometimes there aren't options, and you need to learn how to skate alone. It's good. Although I'm sure I've had more amazing sessions with friends than without, there's just still something "pure" about sessioning something alone.

It's also a good way to meet other people... if you skate in a crew sometimes it's off-putitng for other crews/people and you end up sticking with what you know... skating alone and bumping into someone else skating alone... and thus forming a session between the two of you is awesome. No bullshit, just skating because you want to skate and getting stoked that someone else is too...

Fuck. I don't know. If you asked me this a year and a half ago, I'd have probably been all pro-skating with a crew. I guess it just depends on your situation. I just like skating.

just cruising through the city, all by yourself, with or without music, annoying the hell out of other people on the road and going fast is something you gotta do on the regular, such an amazing feeling!

Yeah there's this stretch of downtown tacoma where it's downhill slightly and you can park and justcruise, hitting random ledges, wallies, wallrides, banks, curbs, gaps etc. the street s mostly repaved so its super smooth and it's always dead. my friends are all burnt on it but i go by myself and have the best time.

This is making me feel really spoiled.  All my friends are absolutely down for skating 24/7 and motivated.  All are between the ages of 17 - 23 and past the young stage where you'd fall out of it.
Thats how it was for me when I was 17, but five years later its the oppisite. Most friends got careers, girlfriends, babies, and other shit to keep them skating as much as they'd like. Enjoy it, it gets depressing looking through your phone book a couple of times looking for someone to skate with.

that's the thing for me, as I got older I just cared more about going skate than I did about bro'n down. also seems like the older I get the harder it is to find older guys who think the same way about skating as me. I get kind of frustrated when I skate with people who always do the same tricks and never try anything new and I hate hearing all the back in the day stories, the out of touch analysis of current skating and the "well when you reach my age you can't really skate like that anymore" from guys who I can tell are younger than me.

One of the biggest reasons I post here is my lack of contact with other skaters. Looking through the phone book IS depressing so I skate by myself and communicate with skaters here. I usually don't even bother trying to call people. I just go. F.I.A.

Too true, too true.  I always used to wonder about the loner old dudes at spots when I was skating with a crew, now that I'm older it all makes sense.

Yeah I'm the same. I always wondered about- and then later wanted to be- that one guy that showed up on his own and just did no-complies on everything and wallies off everything. I now aim to be that guy someday.

This thread is honestly getting me so stoked on skating. It's good to see so many people talking about just cruising around and loving skating. Bro'ing down comes second.

Wallie: that street sounds awesome... they're the best kind of sessions. I could never get burnt out on that kind of skating...

Yeah once you hit mid twenties - thirties, its hard to have a crew. Everyone I know who skates either A) is a sponsored am, so they dont have real jobs so they spend their whole day skating, while Im in work, boo! or B) A few older dudes who arent really down for street skating anymore. Basically because they cant hack it at my spots and they rather enjoy the pre-fab Hoboken park for some reason.

Skating alone is probably the greatest thing ever. I just grab up the pup, hop in the car and do some A+ spot searching most nights. And just fucking skate. Its nice to not have to deal with people being late, not wanting to go somewhere, etc, etc..

blank.
