who named that trick?
« on: June 11, 2007, 08:10:20 AM »
i know the gonz came up with the name "stalefish" but who came up with all the other names of all the other tricks with wierd names?
i'm pretty sure hosoi came up with christ air, i know mike smith invented the smith grind, cab the caballero, mcgill the mctwist but what about some of the others like crossbone?  method?  japan?  hurricane?  hardflip?  roast beef?  5-0?

if you know who named/invented whatever trick, post it here.  :)

Brian Lotti - big spin
Alan Gelfland - ollie
Rodney Mullen - kickflip (originally called the "magic flip") and about 100 more
Dave Andrecht - andrecht
Natas Kaupas - wallie
Matt Bennett - Bennett grind
Japan air = is still by Christian Hosoi as homage to his roots.... .. Hawaii...
Gray slide = named by Jim Gray
Roast beef =  by Fucking Vegan
No Comply = must be Ray Barbee, totally his attitude

A Gray slide is like a layback f/s tailslide, grabbing the nose with your leading hand.

Has there ever been another case where someone does a trick the opposite way its normally done and they give it a whole different name?  To me a bennett grind will always be a backside barley grind.

No, it was from when he was a Rastafarian breakfast cook. It was originally called the Jah pan. Uh, like a cooking pan.

How is it frontside?  If you do a back 180 into a fakie nosegrind, its called a back 180 nosegrind, but if you do a back 180 into a back smith its a frontside barley grind?  Doesn't add up to me.

You'd do a back 180 into a frontside hurricane, I dont see how a barley is any different.
