sick, you know any good family style dishes? i usually cook a big dinner on monday nights and then me and my wife eat the left overs at work during the week for lunch. currently i got

- dirty rice
- gumbo
- pasta
- lasagne
- shrimp ettofette
- smothered chicken

in the mix but I'm always looking for new stuff. I got my first kid on the way and have been trying to step up my cooking lately.

I find getting a good cookbook helps.

There's a book called COOK with Jamie by Jamie Oliver which is basically the bible. It's got a load of recipes but also goes through everything from knives to different ingredients and herbs and techniques. It's gives you a good base that you can branch out from.

I also recommend The Silver Spoon which is a huge beast but it's the only Italian cookbook that Italian "mama's" recommend.

I feel offended if I don't get to grill meat we've bought. I have picky tastes so I like to help as much as possible with the cooking and purchasing of food.

i do all the cooking and shoping. my wife does the cleaning and laundry. it's a good mix for us, but i just don't have enough dishes yet and we don't have a grill which sucks.

My girlfriend and I both want to do the cooking and argue over the cleaning.

I got a cast iron griddle pan from the market and that thing's the best for doing steaks. I don't even use the grill.

my wife cooked a big pan of healthy lasagna. wheat noodles, fat free ricotta, spicy chicken Italian sausage, low fat mozzarella. really tasty and guilt free.

cheese sandwhich with tomatoes and olive oil. throw it in the toaster oven. watch out for the cheese melting (fire hazard). 5 minutes

Boiled egg. 5-10 minutes. real healthy

Salad with toast. too quick.

'cheese steak' fries and a coke. Bland. Cheese wit from Pat's has ruined them from anywhere else for me.

easiest thing is sandwiches. just use wheat bread, lean meat (turkey or ham) and low fat cheese (or no cheese)

you probably want at least 4-6oz of meat and if your going to use mayo get the low fat stuff, otherwise mustard is your friend

also do the same thing with burgers. get turkey, lean beef or meatless patties and then wheat buns and dress same as sandwich above. i usually cut the bun in 3s like a big mac but throw out the middle piece so it's less carbs. if you do them like mc donalds hamburgers their not bad cold either. usually cook a bunch early in the week and then stash in the fridge at work. if you really want to go off, grab some turkey bacon too.

You put noodles in you lasagna?

yeah, like these

I know nothing about healthy eating. The cheese steak meal I mentioned above was topped off with a Snickers. I should be a fat man but yet I'm a mere 175. I wouldn't even call my gut offensive. More like miniscule.

i'm thinking about what i'll be having for dinner. burgers with pepperjack, fried onions and a sauce i make using mayonnaise, mango-chipotle bbq sauce and some regular chipotle hot sauce. served with some newcastle brown ales.
