I would rather skate one of these board, especially the gorilla deck, than some cartoon ass Flip or Plan B, but I'd rather go for an AWS or Traffic first.

The topic of slavery is really controversial here in America, especially in the South.  Wearing a shirt with the word slave on it isn't going to make a point to anyone who doesn't skate, it will just result with people looking at you like you are some asshole (especially if you are white skater kid)
[close]

How is it controversial?

Everyone is against slavery right?

I mean very few people are campaigning for slavery, unless i'm wrong.

And yet, wearing a shirt that says "Slave" is...offensive to who?

Certainly the intent of the company and the shirt seems to be mocking the materialistic society in which we live-

where people are "slaves" to corporations/money/etc.

But what I am hearing is: you can't use the word slave at all, for fear someone might get offended by seeing that word?

I'm really lost here, I think Americans have just been trained to be offended or something.

In the end, it doesn't matter if something is found offensive by anyone.

This is America and you can say what you want.

I understand the idea that slavery in this country might be a little more recent, and thus some wounds haven't healed.

But really thats no point whatsoever-sorry if it hurts, but how can a shirt thats implying being a slavery isn't a good thing, be offensive to anyone?

you sound really white.

What's that I hear? Don't like the argument made-yet confused on how to debate against it?

I suppose I would go after the race of whoever made the statement as well.

Way easier.

I'm part english/scottish/german and cherokee indian, and none of those matter in the slightest as to what ideas I hold.

And as we're all descended from the same group of people in Africa.

But again, don't try to think about any of those ideas too hard.

I know it's tough.

Not into the team, but the art direction is way better than most companies out there...No denying there's a huge Anti Hero influence though. Does Allie and Mumford sell boards?

I always thought Mumford was a larger human, but he seems to like small boards so maybe not. The only big dood I know of that skates skinnies was Resse.

I don't see it at all. I thought it reminded me of early Toy Machine stuff when it first came out. Either way, those graphics are banging as fuck.
That would be the ideal artist for Magik if I had the scrilla to pay him. Till then it's Hen's kitty scratch. ;D Not shitting you, I'm hella feeling these graphics.

Everyone's comparisons to Anti-hero though are, superficial, to say the least.

Nick made a good point, this shit has nothing to do with the slavery that occured in the US to african americans and the graphics and everything about the company seem to reinforce that. Its not like they have a cotton plant and the words "slavery" on the shirt or something clearly offensive.... Its the same "anti-establishment" attitude that volcom and many other skate companies have tried to go for in the past

and that "beauty queen" hoody looks sick.

II think it's crucial to know what's really going on in the world. The key is to not let it make you crazy. We all used to love Behold the pale white horse. It made some of us wiser and some us more crazy.

over sensitivity is so annoying

we stole texas through cali from the mexicans which is where a lot of our wealth comes from and now we bitch and complain about them trying to hop the border for jobs that none of us want anyway

we stole everything else from the indians, persecuted them for ages and attempted genocide on them

we put the japanese americans in concentration camps in WWII

the irish lived under what could easily be argued was slavery after the industrial revolution

we had asians working on the rail roads in conditions that could also be considered slavery

fuck we're turning iraq into a shithole right now in the latest religious\racial abuse in our long history of it

i just don't understand why everyone feels the way their race was persecuted was somehow special. as someone mentioned slavery is as old as man. how does the use of the word slave somehow only apply to slavery of african americans in the US?

my heritage is cajun french and american indain. both were abused over their race\culture and i honestly don't give a fuck. i think we'd be better off if people got slightly thicker skin about speach and stopped being so damn sensitve.
