Making jersey barriers skateable
« on: September 05, 2007, 05:58:27 PM »
i noticed that there are a couple jersey barriers at the bottom of a small hill in the parking lot of a train station by my house. anyone have any pointers or stories about the best way to make them skateable?

get a bunch of rocks/gravel, shovel them to the bottom and create a nice wedge shaped base, quickcrete over that, smooth and shred.

learn how to skate them without any quickcrete so that you'll be able to hit them anywhere you see them. I learned how to ride them on the 4th of july and it felt fucking great, it's one of my favorite things to do when i skate through a city. Just lift up your front truck and push your weight forward with you back foot and you'll cruise right up the barrier.

there's a bunch at leeside...it's sick....what they did for alot of them is push the top back so it's a bit more mellow...tranny'd them up...the bottom gets fucked so i see someone i think has bondo'd them....if you're going to build more of a tranny..i think you gotta back fill a bit...

one more sick thing they did is where there are two side by side...move one and then make a corner...same goes if it's at a right angle w. a wall...you can build a corner to wallride....

we're im planning on doing it there's a line of i think three, so the corner thing is definitely an option. it didnt even occur to me that i could move those things, they look heavy as hell

just find the shittiest, most rusty piece of sheet metal that you can use to make the transistion clean

LOL at yours and steves, larry

but like jsoy said, tilt it over to make it allittle more mellow. if you really want it to be nice, quickcrete it first then come back in a few days and use a smoother cement.

I like the idea of a corner, I'm deffinately going to be looking into that

anyone else have cool stories of weird spots they fixed up? I'de love some inspiration

they are heavy as hell...i think to prop it up they used a car jack maybe....barrier cult tip is to prop them up w. bibles.....i have no idea how they moved it to make a corner.....

i think too you quick crete it...let it dry...then come back and make another mixture w. more water to make the cement thinner for the final coat which will be more smooth...

haha, yeah the more I look at it I realise how panzy it is. In my defence our intentions were to use to for straight wallies and not lip tricks (besides, that parking block was in the way).

whatever you do, dont spray paint them or it will be gone in a week.  little bits of concrete aren't as noticeable.

it just looks so small..so much potential to eat it...within the first week of paving our barrier here, two dudes had to go to the hospital and I chipped a large part of my tooth off. mind you, there really isn't more than four or five people that skate here on a daily basis
