I feel for you!

I tried this with nollie flips last year and gave up. Even did a nollie flip session that lasted 3 hours without landing.... Fuck that trick.

On a brighter note : landed a varial heel first try in my first session in a week. So I guess I know the trick now as opposed to landing it once in a while.

I think after a certain point during a session you're no longer progressing with the trick; most often working on something for that long is almost counter-productive and it's highly unlikely you'll nail it.
But we've all been there, hehe!

I've started learning Nollie flips recently, the main issue I have is flicking out properly, I seem to be able to land them but without getting a good flick.

Varial heels - so hit and miss for me, I've landed a few but I have to put so much effort in to get the right flip.

Nollie flips and Switch flips are one of those things you have to practice and learn through brute force. When I first started doing them they felt weird as fuck. Then if you just always are trying them, they will start to feel like a more natural motion. Now I can do nollie flips more consistently than kickflips. You just have to put in the time trying it to make it work.

I find that if i concentrate on flicking my switch flips like my regular ones they always pop and spin better, Like concentrating on making that front foot do the same motions as i would on regular kickflips

Got my first bs 180 the other day. It was horrible, but I'll take it. I literally cannot figure out how to do them well.

practice, practice, practice. I don't setup my feet in the ollie position; I put my front foot a little closer to the front bolts.

Having good pop shuvs helps, too. A lot of people say you should look at your back foot, but I don't think I do. Whatever helps, just stick with it.

Learned varial heels about a month ago. Still really sketchy for me. I have to hang a lot of toe off (almost half of my foot), and my front foot is also pretty close to the back bolts. Reminds me of kids who do treflips with their feet really close together. Whatever, though, still pretty happy
good advice here

Amen to that shit nephew! On the right ramp you can just get away with the best shit! In a weird way (to me, and I can't really explain it) footplant tricks are like the french fry curb of transition. Just so much shit you can do with 'em.

On topic- I can get a pretty solid bs 360 nollie without pivoting now, but they look weird. Having said that I skate weird so I guess it all works out. I can do 'em off smaller things, and trying to get them up curbs but they turn into helipops, so I'll just claim helipops up curbs, too. hehe

I thought nollie back 3s were helipops? What's the difference?

I fairly recently got that trick, too, but I still have to pivot a good 90 degrees. Weird trick.

Hahaha I knew someone would mention the snowboard style. But yes my front foot is coming off, comes back on just before i land, its unintentional too I don't think i could keep my front foot on even if I wanted to.

I could be mistaken, but I think the only difference is the pivot... at least around here, a helipop would be a bs nollie (180 degrees plus) to pivot, versus keeping it in the air & spinning it all the way around.
