If it's formatted for mac I would keep it that way.

I have a nano that's formatted for both mac and PC and works out well because both operating systems can read it and you can upload songs from both of them.

It's actually better to format it to PC to use on both Mac and PC.

I've seen Mac formatted iPods have too much trouble on PC's, but not vice versa.

You should check out this site

http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=151

I'm not trying to be a dick and be like go ask it there, not here, it's just a good site for this kinda thing. I've had a lot of ipod/mac issues resolved through it.

Just don't call them on the phone. You'll get some person in a hick town for call support telling you to restart your computer.

I had this problem before and it fucking sucked. I did figure it out through Google searches, but I can't find the page anymore. Here is what I did though:

- plug the ipod into your computer

- right click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and go to "Manage"

- under "Storage" click on "Disk Management"

- besides your "C" drive, there should be another drive showing up without a letter; right click on it and click "Change Drive Letter and Paths"

- assign this new drive any letter that is available

- from here you can right click on this newly assigned drive and go to "Explore" and delete shit, or you can re-format it

I am running Windows XP Professional SP2 BTW.

Oh yeah, when you're exploring this ipod drive (if you choose to do it that way), make sure that you can view hidden files. All of the songs that were on the ipod before are stored in these hidden directories and each filename has like a 5 or 6 digit limit as to what you can name it.

im going to assume this is really easy to do, im pretty sure you can resore factory default settings just on the ipod alone, and yea just plugging it in and following the directions works.

While it seems like it should be easy, that's not the case at all. With the ipod alone, you can only restore the customized menu settings, but not remove any music files or change format (these things can only be accomplished with a computer attached to it).
