« on: November 13, 2007, 10:53:32 AM »
Sorry ABP[/glow]

sg.de says that Big Brother will come back...
I only had one issue, because back then US Mags were hella expensive over here in germany. But the one issue I had was fun to read...
Does anybody know?

I Googled for about ten minutes but couldn't find shit about a resurrection. Dave Carnies blog last entry was in August. I think it's just a rumor.

Can you really remake Big Brother?  I mean, the first few issues were crazy, but towards the end, you could tell that they were 'reaching'.  And I mean, reaching far.  I don't think you can imitate such a ground breaking idea.  I think every body just reads VICE now instead.  Vice sucks by the way.

I don't think so. It's true that the earlier issues were more fucked up, but the later ones were still very good. This article is from the last issue they put out, and it's one of the greatest things to ever  be printed in a skateboarding magazine.

Thank you, WeTigers!

God, I thought that article was so great. I even left a message on the BB message board back when it folded to tell Carnie that I was bummed because I wanted to read the rest of the speed annals.

I also thought BB was still good at the end, but from the sounds of things on this board, we must be in pretty exclusive company.

I just got done reading an old issue with a Jason Ellis interview, and it was pretty good.

Thanks for putting that up!

Big brother was amazing to the end, I just appreciated it less. Watching The Man Who Souled The World the other day I yearned for its return. Skateboarding needs some raw in your face shit again. Every magazine out now whore themselves to the rest of the industry. They positively review every video, and tell you about how cool the dudes they are on tour with are. Shit talking and harsh reality are missing from skateboard mags.
To whoever mentioned Vice, at first I thought it was like Big Brother but without skateboarding, hell, they even have Nieratko* on staff. But then I realized, Vice is just hipster garbage. All they do is try to put other shit down and act like their own shit doesn't stink- despite being a bible to the most pathetically lame social.... social... I don't even know what to call hipsters- they are just a bunch of kids who never emotionally graduated high school. If it weren't for the fact that his show is better I would probably despise Patrick O'Dell more than Sheckler.

But yeah, give me blunt articles about your personal drug abuse, interviews with monkeys that skateboard, an article warning me about the dangers of nairing your asshole (apparently it burns when you put it in, and itches when your asshair grows back),  ads that have the purpose of devirgining 16 year old kids, and the characters who never would have been part of the skate lexicon if it weren't for big brother. Vice may go over some of that shit, but it just ain't the same, and is probably poorly written by some asshole photo-blogger. Even when the days of nudity and the bong olympics are over, Big Brother still had the best shit in it.

In the end I'm pretty sure they went out because they talked shit and lost a lot of advertisers and potential interviews/tours. I think the magazines in skateboarding are too big of pussies. If companies put out shit, which they do, call them out on it! If the other mags had a tenth of the balls bb did then they would still be in business, and skating would be a lot cooler.

That, and I got a subscription right before they folded. I only got one issue and no refund, those assholes owe me 12 issues!

*Despite my hate for Vice, I still love the writing of Chris Nieratko.

Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”
I quit skating for a time due to piling out

That would be so tight. I loved it till the bitter end and still have most of the mags. They have my subscription.

On a sidenote, back in the day I emailed them a few times, just commenting on something. No questions, nothing that would require a reply. Nevertheless, Carnie emailed me back both times within a few days. I thought that was awesome.

i knew we would agree on something, sometime! Phat was amazing and pre-empted BB on a lot of the boarderline content by a year or two. not to mention a national ban. would never come back though, all the key players are over it, or dead.

Carnie responded to every e-mail I ever sent him. I had all of them but the first issue and the corky one. I left them in The Woodlands in September 2006 next to the dumpster behind Krogers off of Research.

Because the Girl/Chocolate guys left World cause they weren't feeling Rocco's direction and wanted to do their own thing.  Which is why Sal Rocco created Bitch Skateboards, a direct blow towards Girl.

What I find ironic is that when I ordered the Rocco Documentary, it came with a free full year subscription for Transworld!  Transworld was the main reasonBig Brother was created!  Isn't it ironic?  Don't you think?

Highly doubtfull that it's coming back.  If it is, good luck.  People are so P.c. that it would instantly be classified as porn.  But then, on the other hand, it's really IRONIC to offend people.
