in toronto, there were a lot of complaints to newspapers a few years back about the number of crimes where the suspects were described as blacks of such-and-such a height, weight, etc.   so now the newspapers dont actually mention the 'race' of the suspects they describe, even when the police make an appeal to the public for help finding someone.  itll be like, "the suspect was approximately 25-30 years old, 6'2, and 200 pounds, wearing jeans and a dark jacket."  um, just a little bit vague?

Yeah you only need to get caught once.. the only problem in Marseilles was that people were sometimes known to get their shoes taken too if they were in good condition, so that would leave you without anything.. the only place they left alone was your underwear; and notes get funky if they're near your ass all day when you're sweating and skating, hence the socks!

Personally, I feel sorry for the kid, but in my own experience, robberies/muggings have a lot to do with being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This guy from my hometown who used to ride for Deathbox (before it turned in to Flip), beat the shit out of some mugger at South Bank back in the day, with a freestyle board! These days, I'm just careful when I'm out skating and always have an eye on who's around etc..

pepper spray can keep you out of some rough stuff if need be.  It's small and I think it may be legal...not sure though. It got me and my friends out of some jams when I was younger.
