Well I guess you can't please everybody on the internet.

People that have a hard time reading it I'm sorry... it wasn't an email interview, it was done over the phone and he was kind of jumping from point to point.  Like starting with one idea and stopping and moving to another.... In the context of a normal conversation it makes sense, granted I could have chopped up and paraphrased what he said but wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

Trust me I would have no gripes posting the audio but I don't care to waste any bandwidth with a 40 minute audio track on even one hater out there...  If you care about his work then you'll read it.  Or if you are an e-hater then you'll also take the time to read it so you can have something to bitch about on slap.

And if you have to ask why we talked about cameras so much then it's time to get a clue, it's skateperception for christ sakes....  Go to 48blocks.com if you want quality interviews about skateboarding....  But we cater to the filmers, it's that simple.

what I got from what I could stand to read:

TY made FF to showcase the use of new video equipment and techniques, its like the skateboarding is secondary.

I don't watch a Skate video to get excited about how it was filmed/edited, I want to watch the skateboarding.

I would say the best filming/editing is the stuff you don't even notice.

Video style over Skateboarding content - he needs to reverse that dude.

"Are you guys ever planning on putting out a Deluxe version of Fully Flared with extra bonus features like everybody else does?

Ideally I think it would of been really good to put that stuff out on the video right now. I've gotten emails from kids complaining "why isn't there any bonus stuff". But I think you have to look at it if people wanted that in there the video wouldn't even be out yet. It took so long to make it, to tell you the truth I don't really know. We don't really have a point to right now, the video is the video right now."

So what does that mean? There might not come out a better DVD version? Well fuck me

I hope there is.
there will be. he just doesn't want people to have one more reason not to buy the current edition. i'd say 4 months or so, and we should see the fully flared special edition box with a behind the scenes of the intro and a six-hour lifestyle montage.

the entire interview was him explaining that he DIDNT use much new equipment.
[close]

maybe he didn't use much new* equipment, but he did shoe horn in what he did have at every possible moment.
*depending on what you define as "new", I mean a video camera isn't new is it?

skateboarding doesn't need a "director" it seems like the skateboarding isn't enough so he trys to "add" to it, if he's not botherd about chopping peoples heads off why does he think people will care that MJs last trick was beautifully lit and gave a "behind the scenes" view on it all, wow break down that 4th wall man! why do we need to see that "look at the shit we went through to get this trick, so many slams, set lights up etc" bollocks in peoples parts. I thought the point of editing was you could take all that shit out.

I didn't want to watch Tys Filming/Editing and be blown away by them, I wanted to watch Mike Carroll, Rick Howard, Eric Koston etc . . . ride skateboards - and then bitch about that on the internet.

Skate videos need to be less like Movies and more like the News agrreed

I like people bashing ty's direction with video production... However somebody must like his work and the direction he's taking or they wouldn't have him on now, would they?

You can clearly read the interview and see him support anything thats skate video related, no matter who's doing what, hvx's or vx1000's like the last decade, it all supports the general picture and he's right... However if you're so convinced how skateboarding videos should be then you should take it upon yourself to dethone him and do things your way, if people feel your ideas then one day you can hit the highest tier and perhaps be lucky enough to have losers talk shit about you on the internet, if you're lucky.   Unfortunately as it sits now nobody cares about you or what you think and they won't till you get off the keyboard and do something about it.  It's the land of opportunity brother, go get yours.

I think it's pretty obvious that it doesn't take much to make a skate video these days, so why bash somebody for doing something different...  FF (besides the 6 squares montage) was constant skating, no bs skits or anything of that sort...

Actually I'm going to stop, I'm not going to try to justify why Fully Flared was awesome to some internet turds, it was easily the most anticpated video of all times and it definitely delivered.  I saw every big name "pro" outside of the girl camp at the premiere wanting to get a glimpse of the future of skate videos.

most of the bitching on here is terrible. you read a interview from the filmer/editor and want him to talk about the skating? you are a fucking idiot, there has been numerous interviews from the team riders posted, read those. and yea the interview was terrible ya know, he kept repeating shit ya know? but at least he went into detail about what he was asked about ya know

I've read the stuff from the filmer and that's what I'm commenting on, his filming/editing.

I'm NOT saying, "why isn't TY talking about the skating".

I'm saying from what he says about the video he let his priorities get in the way of the skating. I guess the interview made me think even more so he used skateboarding to demonstrate his abilities rather than using his abilities to demonstrate skateboarding.

I can't get away from the crazy editing/production/cutaways to actually see what's going on, but I guess that's good for him because that's what excites him as a videographer (and others I imagine), but he's making a skateboard video!

I'll say it again a good video shouldn't push the video style above the skateboarding content and I think he totally did.

If that then if your opinion... why are you critiquing the filming and not the skating? The skating wasn't obscured by anything Ty was doing... He even says he wouldn't use 35mm adapters because they're not time-efficient
enough for the riders. I don't get where this finger pointing is coming from.

I think that interview (at the very least) should have cleared up much of the hate. If you're able to wipe the glaze from your FF singed eyes, and read in between the lines... the interview does tell of the basic concept that ALL a video and ALL a skate company are, is a group of guys who got together, put their heads together, and put some shit out. If you're able to look at it like that... Most skate videos are pretty rad, some are insanely good. FF was insanely good.

Sidenote: I wasn't CRAZY about Guy's song, but I thought it was perfectly sentimental sounding, No?
