Removing wheel graphics without damaging the wheel
« on: April 24, 2024, 03:16:32 AM »
Does any of you know how I can remove the logo on a wheel without damaging the urethane. Does acetone work here or is it going to damage the urethane?

Last time I did it was with the flathead scredriver of a swiss army knife. Didn't want to remove the complete graphic, but scratched of only parts of it, though. Worked really well and precise on the 99a F4s I had.

A scrap of extra grip works.

Grip works, you’re damaging the wheel by riding it.

Why stress about something scratching the surface

I always use the same blade I grip my board with, but I only bother if there's a graphic on both sides

I remember taking out logos from phones with a sugar cube, it probably will take time but I don't think that will damage the wheel

Rail slides and freestyle moves work great 👍

Little bit of leftover grip tape works perfect. Had a set of Jarne spitfires (for obvious reasons had to remove), took no time at all.

Acetone and a cotton pad. Soak the pad really good, scrub hard and at first it may seem like it's not doing anything and then suddenly the graphic will start coming off pretty good. I've done it plenty of times and it doesn't damage anything. I'd imagine grip or a blade would take wayyyy longer.

Acetone works for certain wheels. I've used it on Rictas. Wipes off with a paper towel.

Spitfire requires a blade. Use it to scrape and they'll come off with a bit of effort.

Found a pic of the wheels I started to take the graphic off, well just that pedo's name. Took like 2 minutes maximum with a bit of scrap grip tape.

But yeah one season and they go away anyways.

Would Brasso work? I've used it before on plastics and had pretty good results. Basically it's a micro-grit so it should rub it off in the same way sandpaper would, without the huge gouges.

.

Not sure about other brand wheels, but Spitfire and Bones were super easy to scrape off with a razor blade, not cutting, scraping, almost like a coin on a scratchie, if that makes sense?

I could take of how ever much I wanted, either the whole graphic or parts of it to leave something specific behind very easily with a nice sharp simple razor blade of whatever shape or description.

Guessing most wheels with the current technology in wheel printing would be all the same, so you could use a blade, but I know others have used acetone and other chemical products to remove graphics and never harmed the wheels at all.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.
