Dubbed anime and kung fu movies are dumb.  It's not even watching the same movie.  Fuck that noise.  The main point of me studying japanese was so I could watch japanese movies without subs in the native language.  Seriously, never bring up dubbed movies ever again.

A big "Fuck Yeah" and "What took me so long" to these Japanese masterpieces. Howl's Moving Castle is up next.

I saw this years ago at an outdoor film festival where my view of the subtitles was almost completely obstructed by a speaker and was still amazed by it.  I need to check out the dubbed version.

Subtitles are almost always preferable to dubbed, but I've heard good things about the American dub on this one (I know there was some money/star-power behind it).
Either way, my main point was that I need to see it again since my seating meant I got only half (possibly less) of the plot the first time around.

I just watched

Had a blast.  It looked like a terrible B-movie but ended up being a Cronenberg-like B-movie.  It's a good time, I recommend it.

Watched this for the first time in quite a while. Easily one of my favorite movies, so many good things about it.

After seeing this

I was so completely overwhelmed by Lynne Ramsay's powerful direction, I had to see what she'd done before. So I watched this:

Wholly different film, set in 1970's Glasgow during the bin strikes. Unlike WNTTAK, it takes you on a tour of the vulnerability of youth. Very moving and highly recommended.

Watching Morvern Callar next, we'll see what that's like.

A Scanner Darkly

Ive always liked the story, I think the innovative animation is a bonus, doesn't add much outside of the "suit" that the agents wear.

Seems a lot of people hate it but it has Downey Jr and Woody Harrelson, Ive always like movies set in the somewhat conceivable near future

kingdom of the spiders. this was seriously so good. william shatner being cheesy as hell fighting killer spiders with a fire extinguisher. the ending leaves us with a pretty frightening thought.....

Really fucking solid, was surprised to find it wasn't based on a novel with the way it's structured.

I'll probably go see Melancholia soon, pretty starved for good releases lately.

I randomly caught the sequel on tv the other day, the rage: carrie 2. and it didn't completely suck. sure, its a mixed bag leading up to the end sequence but when it gets there shit gets awesome. violence a plenty and funny creative deaths. worth it for the last 15 minutes.

It has a hell of a cast, strong performances in it. Very very strange movie, I was kind of bummed they showed all of the all the awesome visuals in the first 30 seconds and then the rest of the movie is all shot handheld, i guess somewhat shaky cam to bring some realistic feeling to the film.

This was really cool

I'll can't access TPB anymore, which kinda sucks because I liked that site. Our goverment had it shut down for us through every national connection.

That's Soultaker. That episode is hilarious. If you want a guaranteed laugh all-the-way-through episode, watch Space Mutiny
