Just saw La La Land the other day and it was awesome. I'm not a musical guy, but it's a great story and beautifully shot. All the singing and piano playing is all done by the actors as well, which is amazing. I'm not gay, but I'd marry Ryan Gosling in a heartbeat.

I kinda hate musicals and I wanted to leave 15 minutes into La La Land, but after it was all over I must say.. It's one of the best films I've ever seen. Fucking masterpiece

Before seeing it I said I wasn't a musical guy but then I remembered I love the Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin so who knows...

Regarding La La Land though, I saw it 10 days ago and I'm still thinking about. Favorite film of the year.

I'm in the same boat. After watching the opening scene I thought what the fuck have I got myself into

Turns out the movie was fucking gold. The last scene was all time radness.

I want to eat the poo of Emma stone so bad. Same with Ryan. He seemed to have extra doe/lazy eyes in this movie as well.

Same here. I thought the whole movie was going to be that style of musical scenes and was sincerely worried. Turns out that was my least favorite scene in the movie. Gosling playing that backyard pool party was funny as hell.

Just got back from seeing this, for the first time ever, at a theater.

Enjoyed it overall. Interesting, albeit dramatic and exposition-heavy, dialogue, and I could watch a whole film of just those shots of the city.

However, I got lost in some of the more convoluted plot points, and felt the ending seemed super abrupt.

My brother gave it to me on DVD a little while back, so I'm gonna give it a rewatch soon.

Also, before the movie, they showed a trailer for the live action ScarJo "Ghost...", that's coming out in March I believe, and it got booed pretty harshly.

never EVER watch evangelion then!
sidenote: I think this is a quirk of Japanese cinema in general especially if you're used to hollywood-esque plot lines

The guy at the theater that I bought the ticket from, told me about two like "Ghost..." mini-series or something, that I should check out too.

You seen any of what he was talking about? Would you recommend any of it?

I'm extremely out of the loop these days and generally only read a few comics that I really really dig. Kinda ironic since the whole manga vibe is coming back into skating. idk it's cool when you're 16, probably not so cool when you're as old as myself/ jeremy klein. again, there's a few exceptions to this rule. I bet user: otaku could give you some good recommendations ;)

this easily made it to my top five movies of all time list. if you liked no country for old men you are going to LOVE this movie.  I cannot recommend it enough.  it is worth paying money to rent on demand.

Haven't seen a good movie in ages.

Saw la la land a couple weeks ago with my friend and it was your typical self congratulatory hollywood same old.

don't know why I have to swear about it. Guess I was just so stoked to discover it was essentially a spin-off of Twin Peaks

That's great, because now you have a fat chunk of movies to look forward to. Rushmore is in my top 3 favorite movies of all time. I'd highly recommend it.

I loved Paterson go run to watch it.

I thought Lala land was a joke. A mishmash of stereotypes. Nothing new, nothing fresh. It felt like fast food. It was so basic, so void.
They wanted it to be deep and meaningful, but it was nothing but superficiality.
They made a lot of nods to classic musical in the likes of Jacques Demy (The Young Girls of Rochefort, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg etc...) but the way they did it was so corny it felt like some GAP X United Colors of Benneton advertising.

I could understand them winning the costume design oscar, but that's it.

The only positive thing is maybe it will make people listen jazz music, but I doubt it.
