Larry Cohen is a very underrated director. Any jerkoff can make a buddy cop action movie, a romantic comedy where they break up for 20 minutes and get back together in the 3rd act, or some dumbed down superhero adaptation cgi fest, but Larry Cohen had ideas. Real ones. This is fantastic movie encased in a pretty good movie, because unfortunately, this movie has some of, no joke, the worst editing I've ever seen. Movies like Dolemite had it down more, although at least you won't see the boom mic in this movie. This movie should be remade; it's need to be re-edited. One tip, Turn down the fucking music and turn up the dialouge.

just watched the new Dredd movie.  Dammit it was awesome.  Who woulda thought?

EDIT I forgot to respond to this: I haven't seen this movie, but I've always said that people should remake bad movies instead of good ones.

larry cohen is great.  used to love this one as a kid:

really cool yakuza flick.

I hear the second one is coming out eventually

Not my favorite Kitano movie, but was still enjoyable.

Not sure if I would say this was the last "good" movie I saw but I finally watched it the other night. I'd heard about it for years, lived in Serbia for a bit even, but just remembered it the other night and found it streaming. I only watched the 99 minute version which is the edited one - uncut is 106 minutes I think.

Honestly, at least the cut version, I didn't find to be all that bad. The gore and violence wasn't any worse that lot's of movies I've seen with little to no controversy around them. It's the film's circumstances that are fucked up.

Anyone seen it? The uncut version? The director/writer gave some bogus contrived explanation of how it's a metaphor on the Serbian government fucking you from birth to death.

already came out.  wasnt nearly as good as the first.  the thing about the first one is that it's actually an exact representation of how the yakuza work.  so much so that laws concerning the yakuza changed in japan after it came out.  the second one was just so over the top.

Ah, greetings, greetings, and salutations. I beg your forgiveness. My tardiness was unavoidable. Rava, my love. Elaine, my dear friend.. And you must be Jerry. Lord of the manor. Ah, my liege. A pleasure to serve you.

I've seen it, the uncut version, and I guess those 7 minutes could have made the difference. Some of the scenes were kind of disturbing, not that I couldn't sleep for days or something but definitely some images that remained in my head. I also don't believe in that Serbian-government-metaphor-bullshit-interpretation... A friend of mine put it that way and I agree: it is a very well-made horror movie with a good score which by the way breaks a shitload of taboos (content-wise).

The Legend of 1900 Full Movie

Love this movie but never see it mentioned anywhere. Nice one! Giuseppe Tornatore is an amazing storyteller.

Been sick so I've been catching up on what I've meant to watch for a while. Miller's Crossing was pretty solid, but Barton Fink...Goddamn. Great, great movie.

The score was done by Tangerine Dream and fits the film perfectly.

Not sure if it's been posted, but just watched "Everything Must Go" on Netflix. A Will Ferrell movie that's actually dark, but heart-warming at the same time.

That's unfortunate, but at this point I've already come to terms with the idea that I will always like his older stuff better
(even his weird comedy ones)

Just finished zero dark thirty, good movie. The torture scenes weren't as gnarly as people made them out to be. Kinda crazy how she went from making fun movies like point break to making war movies.

Saw Gangs Of New York the other day, thought it was a little all over the place, and Scorsese could have cut it down, it dragged a bit, but as usual Daniel Day-Lewis is pretty phenomenal and a decent film in the end. Obviously not one of Scorsese's best though.

Also saw Les Miserables on Friday, genuinely thought it was brilliant, did a review on my blog here: http://thedarjeelingblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/les-miserables-review.html

Can't wait till Django Unchained comes out here in the UK.
