Sean Penn was amazing, and Josh Brolin is a badass.

I found this to be overwhelmingly disappointing. Poor character development, I never cared about half of the characters. Sean Penn looked like a melting candle with that make up and I felt he ended up more of a parody by the end. Agree with you about Josh Brolin though, felt he was the only redeeming feature, the film was definitely pretty stylish though.

This was pretty good, reminded of all the classic gangster/crime movies.

I saw Iron Man 3 yesterday, it was flawed but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Wrote a review here if anyone fancies a read:

Can't go wrong with Dylan and Cash. Best scene in the film. Really enjoyed it, Robert De Niros best in over a decade

Related to the guy who posted a review of Iron Man 3...  Does anyone here watch movie trailer reactions?  I found out the other day that my co worker, the biggest kook I've ever met, posts movie reviews and trailer reactions.  Couldn't find his account, but I did watch a few "reactions."  Humans suck.

Silver Linings playbook was pretty good.  Did not know it was going to end up being a sappy love story but I'm a sucker for these feel-good movies.  Bradley Cooper's character reminded me of some people I know.

Silver Linings Playbook was good because in one way or another, we can relate to the characters and their flaws

Contagion, directed by Steven Soderbergh.  It's another ensemble piece similar to Traffic about the global transmission and social breakdown caused by a deadly viral disease.

Watched it on Netflix.  One of the best roles I've seen of Paul Rudd.
Adam Scott from "Parks and Rec" and "Party Down" has a part too.

Saw the new Star Wars Trek last night. It was pretty good, if you ignore some overly obvious "twists", ridiculous fights, and JJ Abrams' obsession with lens flare. A nice nod to old TOS movies.

The best part, though, was the architecture and design of future SF and future London. Quite believable and very pretty. I want to download it just to freeze frame through those parts and look at everything (and imagine skating it).

I liked Star Trek 2, thought Benedict Cumberbatch stole the movie. One hell of a character, not to spoil anything.

I still hate 3D, literally see no benefit in storytelling with it. There is a scene with Kirk and Pike in a bar, regular shot with two characters sitting and talking. Oh wait it's 3D, lets throw massive fucking wine bottles in the middle of the frame and put them out of focus, that'll look great.

I just hope Star Wars VII isn't 3D but of course it will be, $$$

I thought lens flare was kept to a minimum throughout, it wasn't that noticeable in comparison to the first movie or Super 8.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, Cumberbatch was incredible though, and the quality of the acting throughout the supporting cast was surprisingly high.

True, it wasn't nearly as bad as the first one, but that was pretty much a two-hour-long lens flare. It was still super distracting to me in any scene on the Enterprise.

And yeah, Cumberpatch was fucking awesome. That dude is so menacing.

Oh yeah, just noticed this one...my gf and a lot of her friends work in public health, and they all say this is the most accurate pandemic movie that's ever been made. For what that's worth...apparently it gets brought up a lot in that circle. And they hired some public health bad asses as consultants.

Just watched the new remake of Evil Dead, they cut out some good parts from the original but overall I quite enjoyed it.

Got to see an advanced screening of this. Pretty hilarious. Danny McBride comes through with some big laughs, as long as your not sick of his cocky character, which I for one am not. It's completely absurd, so don't go in there thinking the movie is going to make a ton of sense, but do go see it if you want to see Jonah Hill get butt-raped by a demon. There's one back and forth between McBride and Franco involving a porno magazine that had me in tears.

I had been meaning to watch Contagion after seeing Side Effects. Glad this thread reminded me to get around to it, I really enjoyed it. Soderbergh knows how to ratchet up the tension.

Star Trek was alright. Cumberbatch did super well, but it's so weird to have these movies now where you have that strange mixture between really massive catastrophic events and little one-liners thrown in throughout. Yeah, we just flew sideways and ricocheted in our space ship through a narrow crevasse, let's throw little quips at each other 5 seconds later! Enjoyed it though.

The most memorable part of going to see it though was just how fucking stupid that Chronicles of Riddick trailer was.
