That main actor kid did such an awesome job I thought.

You Were Never Really Here was pretty amazing. Really interesting editing and Johnny Greenwood score.

Also finally got around to seeing '20th Century Women' was really good. A few skate references in there.

Anyone seen Mandy yet? Beyond the black rainbow was mostly style over substance so not sure what to expect.

Fuck, this sounds like it could be everything I've ever wanted from that "crazy" Nic Cage role and what I was hoping for when I first saw Beyond the Black Rainbow. I fully agree with the style over substance comment.

Fun fact: I went to an advanced screening for Beyond the Black Rainbow when I was living in LA where Panos did a Q&A after the film. Shortly after we both went to a show in LA where we were both on a mutual friends guest list. I think I'll always remember when my friend introduced us and I called him out on being the director of Beyond the Black Rainbow, said I was stoked on it. I'd almost swear I was the first person to recognize him from that, he looked like he'd seen a ghost and was like, "umm...umm...yeah...that's my film" haha.

Oh and for anyone who's hoping to see this abroad I believe the international distribution rights have sold out so chances are you'll be able to go watch it somewhere.

i really love Beyond the Black Rainbow for what it is.  I don't understand all of the vitriolic opinions of it, but I think "Mandy" will change a lot of people's views of his work.

i read an interview where he said he wanted to make a movie based on all of the horror and sci fi VHS covers he would see in the video store as a kid.  Having never actually seen the movies (his parents wouldn't let him), Beyond the Black Rainbow was the movie he imagined in his head.  It made a lot more sense to me once I read that.

It looks like a movie that knows exactly what it is, and isn't afraid of it. That is to say, it looks amazing.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

I really enjoyed this.

I didn't. Dogtooth was good and the Lobster had it's moments but this was just as off-putting as a Von Trier movie. What's with the incest fixation, Yorgos?

You Were Never Really Here was even better the second time around. Joaquin Phoenix's best performance to date?

The trailer for “you were never really here” looks pretty damn good, but it’ll have to top his roles in Her and The Master. Which may happen...

Watched Only God Forgives the other night.

It was very Nicolas Winding Refn. Not his best effort.
Watch Neon Demon instead.

It's hard to compare those three movies since they're all so different in their feel, the way they were made, the world they were made to be in, and the way the stories are told and characters are portrayed. You Were Never Really Here is a much much smaller movie than the others and feels entirely different the way it was shot and edited and blahblah. It's great and you should see it though. I found it streaming online under it's original title of A Beautiful Day.
