heres some of the first footage i've seen so far. i guess this can be the official thread for this thing? the contest starts tomorrow and aside from the politics and questionability of this whole event, the skating should be pretty sick.

most contests are lame, but i'm excited to see if this one will be cool.

the only thing that's dumb: the last "round" is only the big set of stairs section. I just can't picture mike carroll throwing down on a 15 stair. I'm sure he could, but for what? a trophy? money?

What's going to be a shame is that they are going to DESTROY that whole course. They couldn't just donate it? Really? They have people that move 200 year old houses, but they can't part this out?

Also, I think this contest will be monumental in skateboarding. On one hand, it sucks that tickets cost money and ridiculous money if you want good seats. On another hand, if skaters are going to make athlete money it's going to have to be a spectator sport. Only time will tell though....I'll be down there tonight and this weekend...Hopefully MJ makes it all the way til Sunday.

It's not simply a waste of money, it's a fucking waste of resources. The cash that goes into building it and then ripping it apart could be used for so much good shit. But, I guess that's what professional sports are about, and that's what skateboarding is now!
Fuck everyone involved with it.

They couldn't even bother to find a spot where they could at least leave the plaza to be a public skatespot.
