The amount of Mind Field hate is surprising. I thought the video was amazing in every way (editing and skating)

How come there was so much un-used footy in the bonus? Arto could have had a full length part
[close]

Did you see Fully Flared?
[close]

Yes, but I'm saying why did they leave alot of the parts short when they could have made parts longer.

quality over quantity. plus a lot of arto's b-roll was very dated.

I didn't like Fully Flared the first couple times either. Now I watch it about 3 times a week.

...from beginning to end? I've probably only been able to do that once or twice.

Just downloaded the torrent to decide if I want to buy it. I probably will, despite the dumbass video style, which frequently reminds me of some slick ad campaign for Chevron or something. Right before Grant's part there is this incredibly annoying series of colored dots flashing to this Casio music, and it goes on for, like, a full minute. What the FUCK?

Anyway, no gripes about the skating. Good shit all around.

Grant and Tyler are ridiculously good.

AVE had my favorite part.

Skateboard videos are just amazing right now.

i know everyone dick rides the editing and random images of shit, but really, what is the point? take out all the bull shit and the video is barely 30 minutes long, if that. after all the hype and waiting, they put out such a small amount of product it's just ridiculous. how much sooner (and for how much cheaper) could we all have seen this footage had they not taken the time and money to add in all the visual effects? i don't know about you guys but when i watch a skate video i expect to see.... skating, not some spielberg shit.

fuck the overdone editing, present the product in a timely and efficient manner. let's hope the selling points of the videos to come (flip, blind, zoo york, to name a few) are actually elements of the skating rather than merely those of the presentation

[close]
Well, what's the point of editing than? They could just save themselves a whole lot of trouble and release unedited footage on the web. A huge point of a video is the editing, which is essentially the presentation.
[close]

Sure, i understand that, but i'm saying a little bit is all you need. look at baker videos - yeah, of course there's some editing but the selling point of the video is the skating rather than the editing. all i'm sayin is i dont need the coen brothers to direct my video.. what pisses me off about mind field is how little footage was actually used, as each part is deceptive in that a good portion is the edited shots. given that i'm paying 25 bucks for it, i want a little bang for my buck, but maybe thats just me

are you for real? Antwaun's deathwish part was probably half skating and half taco-hat-ice-cream-drunk-song shit. easily half. every vid has those non-skate elements.

you sound like an idiot and one day, you'll grow a little, gain some appreciation for craftmanship and artistry and maybe you'll see this for what it is. dope shit. if you watched the video and think that skating wasn't the main focus/selling point, you've lost at life.

I like the video, but there's way too much bullshit in it like the segway montage and colored dots that went on for like 2 minutes... it didn't really bother me the first viewing, but it sucks when you've already seen it... I'ma watch 20 mins pure skate no music bonus and henry's part now...

the difference is that antwuan's bullshit comes after his first two parts, which contain the majority of his skating. after they're over i usually just turn off the video. i mean there's like two tricks in that montage and the rest is hijinx so i'm not missing anything, and he had last part so i'm not skipping anyone else. with mindfield, you can't avoid that shit nearly as easily.

i dont get why you guys are acting so surprised about the art... its AWS what the hell did you think was gonna happen? for me at least, part of my anticipation for this video was the little things. and to me, all the "hi-jinx" in baker videos is just regular, put that shit in the credits. but to each his own, people get psyched on different things

i agree, i really liked the video. i was just saying that it's not the same to compare antwuan's hijinx that come after his part is over to the art stuff throughout people's parts in mindfield.

That Chevron commercial is definitely present in the metal titles with the bubble solution. Heath's especially with the sparks and power tool firing up sound.

I like to describe the dots, etc. moments as interludes and times to process the couple parts you've just seen and prepare you for the upcoming. Perfect example is between AVE and Heath. Whereas in Photosynthesis you had Dill bouncing around the lawn with a javelin throw, descriptive voice playing, you now have segway uniform dance, colored dots, and "Navigating the Mind Field"

i think if anyone has seen a previous AWS video then it should come as no surprise, and definitely not be something that makes you dislike the video, that it has the cut shots and the artsy footage and the trippy visuals...it just seems like if you know its going to be in there, expect it and don't complain about it

The stuff in photosynthesis can't even be compared to this stuff. In photo the stuf was in between parts for the most part. Mindfield the shit is sprinkled through every single part of the video. The old man getting down on the segway was super tight, i don't see how someone wouldn't like that. The rest of it was pretty lame though.

it bums me out how many people didn't appreciate this video.

each artsy shot they had in people's parts worked with the skater...it wasn't just random shit.
they didn't show heath skipping through a field of flowers.

and the caliber of skating definitely overshadows all the other clips.
p.s. the intermissions were tight. gave you a second to readjust your brain.

I know this trick isn't in mindfield
but has anyone gotten the new issue of skateboarder? "the one with grant on the cover"

theres a photo of jake johnson doing a roll on 5050 pop over to the side walk
and it looks to be the exact same one pops did?

i would scan it
but I only saw it at the store

it seems to be really obvious, but it was a super good idea to actually release the dvd a few days after the premiere. bet they got a ton of extra sales for that.

There's a switch flip down hollywood 16 in that mag and you're talking about a 5050.
