The tattoo shop by me does a thing call "toys for tats" every year around this time and my shop gave them three completes and nobody got anything done so the manager of the shop asked if wanted a free tattoo, so I got this one.

my folks used to read it to me at bedtime. and now they do a lot of charity work, and give copies of it to the people that donate and recieve. Its kind of a family/ <3 mom <3 Dad tattoo kinda thing to me.

about the silverstein illustrations, just curious, wouldn't you want them going down your arm? i was hoping to get the candle stick from the poem invitation and i don't know if there's a "tattoo etiquette" or not. just an honest question.

I had them done the way i did on my arms because i wanted it to look correct for me. Its more of a personal message and reminder to myself, plus when I'd hold the book in bed when i was a little kid apparently I would sort of wrap my forearms and hands around the back of the book in a way that kind of mimics where the placement would be if it was tattooed right then and there during my bed time story when i was 4.

it does make it a pain in the ass to show people, because i have to twist my arms in a weird way so that they can see it correctly
(or i can just get behind them and do the "stranger arms" trick for a much more intimate feel.)

I'm not sure that there is a proper etiquette. I guess for me it kind of depends, are you getting the tattoo for yourself? or are you getting it to make a statement or to show other people? does it look better one way or the other?

I would like to have a tattoo on my foot, something that has to do with skateboarding (a skateboard for example. "skate and destroy" would be neat too, but that sounds a bit too hardcore and rough). I really want a tattoo on my forearm, but I need to think about my future profession and I don't think tattoos would fit so well.
I guess the foot's a pretty good place to have a skateboarding-related tattoo since it's the body part thats the closest to the actual board + it'd be invisible for the outside world and I could never really get sick of looking at it over the years since it's covered up most of the time.
Still need to find some decent designs, but after years of thinking about tats, a simple skateboard (not the stick figure design that you see everywhere) on top of my right foot has the best feeling
