How would you compare your band to Wyld Stallyns?

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

This week I've been listening to The Howling Wind,  a side project from some of the Unearthly Trance and Aldebaran guys.  Very tight black metal with some death elements here and there.

This weekend I've been jamming Pest - The Crowning Horror.

It sort of reminds me of later Darkthrone material in that it mixes primitive black metal with NWOBHM, but is probably heavier on the NWOBHM side.  Interesting, and at times catchy stuff.

Dispirit is great!

I don't know how many of you follow current heavy metal, but In Solitude is incredible.

They are putting out a new album in September and all indications are it is going to be killer.

I read about In Solitude the other day but never actually listened - thanks for the post they sound awesome! Are you into Saviours? they're a bit more rough around the edges and NWOBHM but still fucking awesome.

The Saviours completely own that space.  The video with Max Schaaf (and that Knucklehead) still gets me fired up.

Ya dude that's an awesome video!

I've been jamming to some older High on Fire - Blessed Black Wings era which is by far my favorite album by them. I really wish they would record with Albini again cause that album sounds perfect. I've been less and less interested in them since that album.

Meh, Saviours are pretty hit or miss for me. I'm not real keen on most of the new stoner stuff.

RIP Joey Lacaze

I heard about this. Kind of crazy to think about.

It's only crazy because he's a founding member and the drummer.  Not sure how they'll go on, some of those dudes NEED Eyehategod though.  No crazy because he was a junkie.

Yeah. I'm honestly surprised all of them made it this long.

They've been around for almost a decade - I won't deny the vocals are weak, but their riffs are fucking awesome

Was it drugs that got him?

Found some good grind from a Gridlink suggestion on Facebook.  But Seminary is a great name.

We have a release date for the Handmade Birds reissues of Dressed In Streams first album and EP so I'm very excited for that.

Grind and Punishment has started this awesome weekly "Good Reads" series where he pairs a book from an author with an album from a band.  Super interesting stuff.  This blog is just awesome to be honest.

After a long time waiting, the Dressed In Streams pre-order went up so I placed that this morning.   Hopefully I get it before the release date.

GunShyAssassin.com isnt that great and sucks a lot of the time, but they're streaming Gorguts right now so that's cool.

Not much of a death dude, but I like slower, older sounding shit. Check out Vastum, Coffins and Ilsa.

Great recs!

In terms of DM, I tend to gravitate toward the more mid-paced, brooding stuff. Old-school Finnish stuff is my favorite.

Older Stuff:

Also, if you're looking for something a little more technical, check out Chthe'ilist. The label "tech death" gets thrown around a lot these days and usually refers to stuff I hate, but these guys are a lot deeper and are actually interesting.

Great band! I've seen them live twice and they were excellent both times.
