Cruciamentum.
[close]

seen them at MDF this year, have been one of my favorite bands for awhile now. was blown away by their set

Sick man.  I haven't listened to ten in a while but I immediately wrote their name down the first time I heard them to get their stuff--which doesn't happen with a lot of death metal bands for me.  Although I've been listening to more lately.  Especially that AEvangelist band I mentioned last page.  I also picked up Colored Sands a few days ago and am stoked on that.

Got Drought by DSO a few weeks ago and it was a lot different than I expected.  I'll have to listen to it a few more times.

I bought an album from a band called EMK because it was $3 and the album art struck me but its not that good.

Came home to the new Dressed In Streams compilation so that's awesome.  Really excited for it.

Not my favorite band, just the best band.

Saw these guys last night:

My ears are still fucked.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Great band! I've seen them a few times and I played with them like two years ago.

I mentioned In Solitude a few pages ago and they are about to release a new album. It's a bit different, but all indications are that it is going to be excellent, particularly if you like that dark, mystical, folky direction a lot of heavy metal bands are going in.

New Black Pyramid, with new guitarist and a new singer. A little different that I expected, but still fucking good, one of my favourite bands of all time, good to hear that they pulled it together.

Also, new Carcass fuckin rules!

I hope we have all listened to this by now?

http://www.invisibleoranges.com/2013/11/31346/

So, this is going to seem really odd, but I hope the lyrics are better organized on Patricidal Lust than Carnal Law.  While I don't mind the actual words used and really enjoy the influences and philosophy behind the lyrics (e.g. Bataille), their structure turned me off.  Carnal Law was almost entirely written/sung in AABB or ABAB pattern and after I read that, it became all I could hear and started annoying me.  I know--it's a weird complaint, but it just seems so simple and immature almost.  But I hope they've moved past that because the music itself is awesome.

Not sure if you guys will be into this, but my friends in Nightkin just put their debut album up on their bandcamp site. Features the guitarist of The Red Chord and ex-members of The Black Dahlia Murder, to give you an idea of what they sound like.

After a cursory listen, I'm enjoying Patricidal Lust less than Carnal Law. I don't dislike it or anything, it just seems less memorable and I think the production isn't quite as intentional. I'll certainly give it a few more tries, though. Carnal Law is one of my favorite releases of the last few years.

Invisible Oranges has the new AEvangelist streaming.  I haven't had the chance to listen to it yet, but I'm excited to.

Ran across this the other day and was surprised at how well it had held up.  Would be perfect for a late fall/early winter vid too.

Favorites of the year?

For me, it goes:

Dressed In Streams-The Search For Blood and the CD reissue of their previous material
Full of Hell-Rudiments of Mutilation
AEvangelist-Omen Ex Simulacra
Nails-Abandon All Life
Blut Aus Nord-What Once Was...Liber III

I'm bad at keeping up with albums right when they come out though, so this isn't the best list I'm sure.  I'm usually scrambling to catch up.

I'm going to see High on Fire, Windhand and Kvelertak tomorrow night. Seen High on Fire a lot already, Windhand is rad from what I've heard, and I don't know why Kvelertak is on this bill.  Don't get me wrong I can handle it, maybe it's the language barrier, seems poppy and I just can't get in to it.

Can someone tell me what the fuck this is about?!

My take on Kvelertak-- They're dudes who grew up all into black metal and then they grew up, started drinking and realized that you can't be mad and hateful ALL the time, so they incorporated party jams into black metal.

Windhand have good riffs and they'd have good songs if they'd shorten all of them by a 1/3.  They just get a little monotonous.  High On Fire, despite not really delivering (in my opinion) on their last couple albums, always rule live.

It was a good show. Wasn't feeling Kvelertak but they have some great energy. Lots of Norwegians in the crowd as well.  High on Fire killed it as usual, played stuff from every album.

I missed most of Windhand but they were loud as fuck and I had no idea the singer is female.  Fuck the venue though, $16 for a pint and only one bar open.  $20 to park.  24oz beers at the Shoreline are $11.  I'm boycotting the Regency ballroom.
