I'm still warming up to the new EHG. I've known those guys and been a fan forever but this album just isn't firing on all 4 cylinders for me yet. could be one of those deals where in a couple weeks it will click but right now I'm not cracked our on it like I should be.

This Friday will be my first time seeing them without Joey. Gonna be depressing. Luckily Ringworm is co-headlining.

I gonna see them tonight, with Church of Misery and Conan as opening. Can't wait.
Third time in two months seeing Conan. Can't complain, one of my favorite actual doom band.

Also on sunday, Converge is playing in Paris with Martyrd?d and OKKULTOKRATI. What a great w-e for heaviness!

This is pretty whatever. I don't really listen to eyehategod much anymore but Jeff Bower and Mike Williams are pretty rad in my opinion. Phil Anselmo's ego is mental. Fuck that guy. Those first few eyehategod albums were amazing. Some of my favourite cover art, too.

I actually really liked that series, Nola scene is my shit. Anselmo is a one of a kind dude, you either like him or hate, and yeah, he thinks a little too much of himself, but I love the music he puts out with all of his bands.

I posted this before, but now one seemed to care. Here you go again anyway.

It's been lacking in camo shorts and beer lately. More bands like Machine Head, who's new album is pretty fucking solid.

First up, RIP to Athon from Black Tusk.  Nicest dude.

Haven't heard a ton of metal lately but somebody sent me this new Anguish album today and I am really into it.  Doomy with a harder guitar tone and a more driven tempo than you get most of the time with this kind of stuff.

Anguish - Stir Up The Demon

I think 2015 will be the year I start going through my bookmarks on Metal Archives and seeing who is worth it.

I've been listening to Mastodon lately - mostly live videos. They're so good live. March of the Fire Ants is such an incredibly crushing song. That riff, dude. It's a monster. The new album doesn't really hold up, but it's still decent. Brann's vocals are pretty awesome though. The album isn't bad - but by Mastodon standards it's lacking a bit. They never seem to be short on riffs, I'll give em that.

The only album I'm anticipating for next year at the moment is Leviathan. I think it will be better then the last one too. I think more time and effort was put into this one. I think the last one was just thrown together really quickly because of the legal allegations that were going on. If the new one is anything like Massive Conspiracy, like they're comparing it to, it's going to be really fucking good.

I'm considering making an 8 hour drive to Maryland Death Fest next year ... has anyone here been to that festival? I hear it's amazing, and there's a handful of bands I'd like to see - just wondering if it's worth driving all the way for it. Will any more bands be added to the bill?

I believe MDF's line-up is set right now.  I'm stoked on their California festival since AEvangelist and Gnaw Their Tongues are performing.  Granted, I won't be able to go to either, but I saw AEvangelist live last year and it was a trip, so I'm excited to see what they do this year with a full backing band.

I've never been to MDF, but I want to go soon.  One of my friends from high school has been going for the last 7 or 8 years as his parent's birthday gift to him and I am always jealous.

Also super stoked for new Leviathan.

matter of fact

anybody ever heard of Deafhaven? i guess it's classified as black metal, i think because of the vocals, but it's really post-metal-y. it's like if explosions in the sky's drummer ripped and did blast beats every once in awhile with more power chords and tremolo picking on the  guitars but with the same sort of indulgent soaring crescendo's put in less often.

at least try the first three minutes, but they keep it interesting the whole time

Yes, we've all heard of them.  It's quite the stretch to say they keep it interesting for any length of time on that album.  I've never struggled so hard to stay awake through a metal album.  This is the best song they've released so far:

Listen to Alcest. Listen to Krallice. Deafhaven sound like a screamo band with blast beats. I just can;t get into them. Thy pastures are greener.
