saw it last night, pretty good. legally blonde vibes. lots of laughs in the theatre, tons of easter eggs (no ray barbie cameo unforch but stephen malkmus catches a stray). ryan gosling is basically a co-lead

you can def feel where mattel got a little heavy handed in terms of mythologizing their product/company, but that seems pretty standard these days unfortunately. lot of discussion around this movie in terms of IP dominating pulp culture, and to what end, interesting stuff

Pretty typical of Hollywood to attempt to make a progressive movie and then use the two whitest people in the industry as the lead characters. There are plenty of poc women who would have played the part of barbie way better than Margot Robbie. But whatever, at least it's a step in the right direction at showing a matriarchal society so I'll probably still go and see it.

So, wife and I went to the movies last night, to see Oppenheimer. From the looks of it, most were there to see Barbie. There was so much pink. Had not seen my local theatre that full or busy in years. Oppenheimer was great.

I saw it at the drive-in this weekend and thought it was hilarious. Loved the absurdity of it too.

I'm glad this thread exists cause I enjoyed it too haha. My friend invited me and I had no idea what to expect, but I went with a positive attitude knowing it was going to be silly. Not a bad way to spend $10 bucks on a week night.

I thought it was extremely mid and was actually bored during multiple scenes. It has a great message and theme, but the jokes were not good. I knew within the first 10 minutes I wasn't going to enjoy it tbh. But I'm 10000% always down for a girl power movie. It's good it exists.
