Been playing lots of old school hip hop
« on: June 23, 2009, 02:23:49 PM »
I gotta say, EPMD is some sick shit.  Listen to the Strictly Business, Unfinished Business and Business as Usual if you need a reminder to how awesome they are.  Early to mid 90's hip hop is some of the greatest music to come out in my opinion.

Y'all So Stupid - Van Full Of Pakistans
Boogiemonsters - Riders Of The Storm (gets kindof weird... but still pretty damn good)
The Alkaholiks entire discography
The Wascals - Greatest Hits (the lightskinned dude is actually an actor now and he's at the end of "Trippin" which is pretty funny_
Das Efx- Dead Serious
Fu-Schnickens- F.U.
O.C. - Word...Life and Jewelz
Organized Konfusion self-titled
Brand nubian - One For All

1992 i totally forgot about that Ill Biskits joint..... nice. Here's a slept on record by the crew known as The Dereliks out of SJ, very intelligent lyrics and original production
http://digginmusic.blogspot.com/2005/08/dereliks-turn-on-wheel-is-worth-more.html

I'm a huge Hip-Hop fan, crate digger and beatmaker. Sometimes on here i talk more about music then skateboarding due to all the topics being about The Berrics or who's on a shoe company.

^^^^I know man.....the only reason I mentioned it was because of that "My Style,My Steelo" joint...lots of people still have no idea where that song is from....so I had to put it out there.....and yes, that is the only "good" song on the album...and there is a reason it fades out after the Redman verse....

anyways...I'll list more soon.....I've got a ton of suggestions....stay tuned.

The Beatnuts-Do You Believe?
http://www.youtube.com/v/rpFwwfMhWzU&hl

Royal Flush-Worldwide instrumental...(Keenan's song from Mouse...R.I.P.)

http://www.youtube.com/v/hUGiDcImtxU&hl

Big Twan-My Mic....Stevie Williams song from The Reason

Dan The Automator feat. Kool Keith-A Better Tomorrow(Part 2).....FIT Industry section in 411

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtEYY8FB0Yw

A.T.C.Q.-Oh My God(Know Naim mix)...Jeron Wilsons song in Goldfish

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lolQ2VrXBw

Raised By Suess-Face The Music....Scott Johnstons profile song in 411#3(only part of the song...I have a different version on tape)

Haha, that makes me remember when Brian Green from Beverly Hill 90210 put out a rap album. Tre from The Pharcyde did all the production and rhymed on some of the verses, can't really blame him he was probabely getting papes out the ass and it really wasn't that bad...

anyway enough of the celebrity rap...

5 Elementz - The Album That Time Forgot (one of Dilla's first production credits)
The Pharcyde - Labcabincalifornia (you all know the first one but the second one is seriously slept on)
The UMC'S - Fruit Of Nature (silly De La esque backpack rap that'll hit close to home)
Intelligent Hoodlum - Saga Of A Hoodlum

Some newer joints that are highly reccomeneded:
Anything with J Dilla's name on including the '05 beattapes, Slum Village Fantastic Vol. 2, Illa J "Yancey Brothers"
Jake One "White Van Music"
Blu "Below The Heavens" (scorcher...)
14kt - The Golden Hour
Pacific Division - The Blend Tape
U-NI- Fried Chicken and Watermelon

there is so much great shit in this thread. i'll do my best to not repeat anything and my 'old school' knowledge isn't as extensive as 1992 but i think these are missing:

artifacts - between a rock and a hard place
black moon - enta da stage
black sheep - a wolf in sheep's clothing
chubb rock - the one
digable planets - anything album you can find
leaders of the new school - t.i.m.e.
onyx - bacdafucup
organized konfusion - stress: the extinction agenda
ultramagnetic mc's - critical beatdown
yaggfu front - action packed adventure
I mean, if the creator of the universe is truly concerned with where you put your penis, then surely he has an opinion on who had the best part in Fully Flared.
