Skaters steal skateboards.

God damn it. You just reminded me that my first set up was a stolen board a friend gave me. The guy who it was stolen from was a real jerk though, so he deserved it.

glutton.

Shitty people steal. Being a skateboarder has nothing to do with it.

Anyone tried to modify a normal deck with a ripsaw to build a cruiser? How did it go? I'm interested to see your experience.
I have access to tools, and getting a standard deck will be cheaper than buying cruiser shape, plus adding the challenge and joys of DIY.

Anyway, here's my current cruise setup. It's a soviet plywood deck with a rubber pad on tail. I had to drill new holes to accommodate for Indys. Doing ollies on this is a challenge, therefore looking for a replacement.

before finishing your text i wanted to ask if this was a soviet deck. soviet as in russian-soviet. if this is the case my mate used to have a similarly looking deck (circa 1988) with the beam running along for "added rigidity", bearings permanently fixed inside the clay-like wheels and weirdly dimensioned baseplates! i bet this thing is heavy as fuck. the only difference being that my mate's board was metal thus making it impossible for any trick to even be attempted. imagine this thing landing on your feet/toes hahaha

^ You're damn right. It's heavy as hell.

Wheels fell apart after first few runs, maybe because it was deserted in shed for 10+ years.

Trucks were awful and are long gone.

This set up is already dismantled and I'm keeping the deck as memorabilia. It skated terrible, although it was possible to kickflips and shuvits.

I decided for a more functional 21. century cruise setup.

My cruiser. Originally an 8.25 Antihero but it has since been cut into the shape of a krooked zip zinger.

Antihero board, zip zinger shape
Independent 129 reynolds hollows
Independent 7's
Spitfire 80hd's
1/8 risers
Welcome candy bars

Saw someone post one of these last month in the set-up thread. They were on sale on skatewarehouse, so I picked one up when I was ordering some other shit.

Not a true cruiser (got hard ass wheels on it). Gonna use it to skate tranny and curbs.

Schmitt Stix Rip-saw reissue w/modern concave (10x30)
Stage 11 159's
99a 59mm Pig wheels
Ceramic Super Reds
Welcome Candy Bars (These rails are actually pretty decent in how they perform. Not too slippery and they have a good handle-like inlay on the inside. The screws they come with suck though and will either be loose or eat through the plastic when you try to get em tight. In the world of rails, I'd rate them above Pig, but maybe not as good as Powell. Plus when you originally install them, they have adhesive backs).

Should be using risers, but I hate being higher off the ground. I'd rather just run my trucks a bit tighter and deal with some rubbing. Actually, with the 159's, the front wheels stick out a good 1/4 inch, so I don't think they'll bite that hard.

Thanks! They are 95a so not true cruiser wheels but I suppose I was going for the NHS/SC aesthetic really! Nice to be able to revert and they look the tits. My sons appropriated it :)

I set this one up for vert, suppose it's a cruiser shape! 8.9" Jesse Guadalupe mono, with 159 Steve Olson Indy, bones hard bushings and 58mm Bones SPF, thumbnails, click for larger. It's a bit colour matched and religious despite me being agnostic, think I got a bit OCD at 40. The crucifix is inverted when you skate which I think is pretty subtle ;)

I can probably get some of that quite easily, pals with a few collectors. Drilling the cellblock felt wrong!

Swapped out trucks and wheels on my cruiser

Skaterbuilt conekiller 9 x 32.5
Independent 159 139 92a khiro barrel bushings with 1/8 risers
66mm gravity burners 77a 63mm 82a micro monster hawgs
Swiss super 6

Over time the 159s and 66mm began to feel a bit too big and heavy. Much nicer now with 139s and 63mm. More balanced and nimble.

All cruiser/shaped boards should come with wheel wells

Yeah, I was able to get away with 66mm and only 1/8 risers with wheel wells. Nice being low to the ground with such big wheels (avoiding huge risers is key)

AH Grosso. I guess the falls into the cruiser category but it will be my every day rider once the snow melts. My newborn daughter's name is on the nose because she brings me joy and smiles.

Santa Cruz Jason Jessee 8.9"
Indy 159s
Bones hard bushings
Zealous bearings (with built in spacers and speedrings. Love them!)
Sushi 1" Allen hardware
Indy 1/8" risers
Ricta Clouds 60mm 78A
Mob grip

All new everything except the bearings and bushings. All started from thinking of getting bigger and softer wheels for my cruiser, so the vibration won't fuck up the healing on my fractured leg and I can possibly go roll a bit earlier than I could otherwise.

25 euros for the wheels turned into a 250 euro order including the deck and trucks and a whole bunch of other stuff. Shoutout to BMCSteve for recommending the 159s instead of 169s. Seems like a perfect fit. From the pic it looks like the wheels stick out but actually they're pretty much flush.

Now I just gotta wait for spring and some sort of a permission from the doctor to go roll. Hopefully that will be sooner than later. But right now I have no idea when that might be. Gonna be months though I'm quite sure.

This is also my first shaped deck ever and a first purpose built cruiser. Previous cruisers were just old setups with softer wheels.
