Van Sant seeks teens, skateboarders

Critically acclaimed screenwriter and director Gus Van Sant is looking for high schoolers and skateboarders to star in his next film, "Paranoid Park."
Casting crews will hold an open audition 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ambridge Event Center, 300 N.E. Multnomah St., Portland.
Casting Director Lana Veenker is looking for male and female high school students ages 14 to 18 and skateboarders ages 14 to 30 to fill about 20 roles. Anyone who meets the age requirement is welcome to audition.
"Paranoid Park" is the story of a teenage skateboarder who accidentally kills a security guard and has to figure out what to do about it. The screenplay is based on a book by Blake Nelson.
Portland resident Gus Van Sant is known for his indie films such as "Elephant," which he filmed in 2002 at a decommissioned Portland high school. Van Sant directed the 1997 box office hit "Good Will Hunting" and 2000's "Finding Forrester."
Filming for "Paranoid Park" is slated to begin in October in Portland. For more information about the movie, go to
