Okay so I just watched Zero Strange World, and I looked on the forum and didn't se a review yet, so I decided to take a stab at it. I just watched the video 3 times in a row, and I have to start off by saying I think the video is great! I liked it better than the Fallen video(mainly because it was less HD and better music) and I really do not have one negative thing to say about it at all. The only thing I would've done different is given Garrett Hill last part, because his part was in my opinion the best part in the video.
The video starts out with like all the other Zero videos a fast opening montage of slams and throw away clips that didn't make it into peoples parts, and let me tell you there are some sick clips in there. The clips are kinda hard to see because there is a filter over them, but it's still really sick. The video then goes straight into Garrett Hill's part and let me tell you this one is really good! He has some tricks in his part that I was really psyched on, and I've always liked Garrett's style and trick selection. He does a really gnarly bs 180 nosegrind, and his nollie flip front 5050 blew me away, and that wasn't even his ender.
The next part is Keegan Sauder, and i've really always liked this guy just because of how good his style is and how comfortable he looks on a board, everything is always so natural. His parts in the past look like he was just out skating and filmed stuff and put a part together and was always good, but not like this part, I feel like he really tried and gave it his all, as it was a really solid part. You can tell he really pushed himself which I was really stoked on, that noseblunt from his Zero ad is so good!
What I really liked about this video is that it was consolidated so that it wasn't too long and there are 2 montages with the riders who don't have full parts. The first montage is after Keegan's part and it has Rattray, Sheldon, Cervantes, Ben Gilley and all of them get down, no fillers in this part. Rattray had a bunch of street footage that was rally good, Sheldon has good stuff one thing that stood out was his kf backtail on the bank to ledge Keegan noseblunts. Gilley ends it with a huge 5050 that he ate shit on more than once, no I didnt count the stairs but i'd guess its well over 20.
There was a lot of Marisa Dal Santos being injured during the filming of this, so when I found out she had a full part I was psyched! She does not disappoint, this chick is fucking gnarly! You've seen some of the photos, but she front boarded that one 14 in a line and I was really stoked on that!
The second montage comes up next and I was a bit confused because I had heard that Chiefers had an HD warehouse part. Not in this version, he had a bunch of really sick street stuff. One thing that really stood out was he front feebled up that round white bar up against a wall, the one he lip slid up in the fallen video. He also back 5-0s a gnarly hubba, which may have been older footage because his hair was longer. Anyway I was really stoked on Jamie's stuff but he shares this montage with Elissa Steamer, Donovan Piscopo, and Tommy Sandoval. I was hoping for more footage of Elissa she has good clips but it left me wanting more, hopefully she will have a full part in the next Zero video. Donovan has really matured skating wise and has some more urbanesque clips in his part, and you can tell his older footage he is grinded gnarly rails, he does a front feeble pop out that really surprised me. Tommy's stuff is crazy as usual but I think this is some of my favorite footage of him, maybe that it is trimmed down. I'm not really sure but his style looks a lot better to me, more stylish i'd say, and as usual all really good stuff from him.
Next up is Zero's newest am Dane Burman from OZ, and this guy is no joke. His part has some really fucked up stuff in it. He hardflips the big street gap that Heath bs flipped, I also forgot to mention that Garrett pop shuvs the shit out to open his part. Dane did hardflip it, and if you can believe it, that is not his ender! I don't want to give it away cuz I want you to be as amazed as I was, but he completely fucks a famous spot, by doing the trick everyone has been thinking about someone doing for years i'm sure. He also back 5050 pop outs a rail with a big drop on the other side, its the one Dollin fs flips in the last Baker video, that was insane.
James Brockman has the next part, and it is full of hammers, he really pushed himself hard for this part, you've seen the photos, and the footage is just as fucked up. I was sayin I had to see that front blunt to believe it and I saw it he did he perfect.
Everyone has seen Asta and Coles part by now cuz it was leaked last night. I have to admit I was a bit worried because I heard about the song they skated to and I absolutely hate rap music, but I think it turned out really good. I think it made the part really enjoyable. Tom Asta is super good, I guess he is going to be on Mystery now, but he kills it. He has some really good tech tricks in his part, and nollie heel back lip the Durham Courthouse rail was insane. Coles stuff was really good, I like the east coast footage he has like the ally oop one nosegrind in Jersey, and you've all seen his enders. I like the anlge of the bs 360 flip that they used in the video better than the one on the Thrasher side, but the cabalarial front blunt was my favorite clip of him.
Okay I'm almost done here, last part was little canadian fuck Jamie Tancowny. Now I have to admit I wasnt feeling this kid from his photos and stuff he just seemed like a little shit kid, but man he did make me bite my tongue. Well he still is a little shit kid, but this kid can fucking skate. Hammers all around, and he ends with that insane kickflip on the new Transworld cover.
The closing section is just like the other Zero videos, more footage and an awesome song but again the filter was up so you can't see the footage that well. All in all this was a really good video and did not leave me disappointed whatsoever and they are selling it for under $15, which is insane! I would like to add that HD just sucks the few HD clips in this video are second angles to vx1000 and the vx1 stuff looks so much better. I'm so bummed Black Box is moving all HD, it just does not look as good for skateboarding, especially the fisheye stuff. This video was 99% VX though so I cannot complain. Anyway that's it.
