I love watching Bobby skate, but didn't this dude wear Cons in one of his video parts?
Yeah, and he openly talks about that in this interview. He points out the difference between randomly wearing shoes that were good to skate without being paid to wear them, and a big corporation throwing money into skateboarding.
i definitely understand what you are saying, but what puleo is saying just doesn't make sense. gino is on nike... nike is corp... okay... but that has no bearing on making kids want to go huck themselves for fame, or get that #1 spot at the contest.
Where have you been if you don't understand this connection? Not only was it discussed at more length in this topic, but has also been talked about ad nauseum in other topics, to the point where people expect me or beer wizard or somebody like that to talk about how with nike and shit in the game it becomes more and more about money and fame and less about just skating, and get annoyed when we do because its already been said so much.
As for Bobby skating the same cellar doors and not being as creative as the entirety of this team or that, I completely disagree. First of all, watch his part in the FTC video. No cellar doors there that I remember, just a bunch of cutty SF spots that people have only just recently begun skating. Puleo did do his own thing and has been creative with the spots he skates. The shit he skates is original, the thing is, its hard to deny that over the last half of this decade everybody has been biting the Puleo/Oyola raw street/cutty spot style. From random kids growing up in Brooklyn to trendy hipster types like Spanky and Jerry Hsu who want to get in on the latest trend. Basically, you can't call him unoriginal just because a whole bunch of people recently copied a style of skating he has been pioneering over the last two decades. Honestly, I feel like THAT is more the source of his bitterness than people skating the exact spot he skates. He's bummed that he had an original thing, and suddenly his originality is being stripped away by a bunch of kids looking to get big by skating the new hip spots.
Oh, he's still an asshole from my experience, but just because you are an asshole doesn't mean you are wrong.
