EAST COAST THREAD
« on: February 14, 2010, 06:01:23 PM »
I am proud and happy to be an east coast skater. So many rippers that changed skateboarding came from the east coast such as mike vallely, kristian svitak, pops, brian tucci, andy kessler, and so many more. the east coast also produced so many legendary spots such as the brooklyn banks, kona, freedom plaza, durham courthouse and so much more. if your also an east coast skater say why you love the east coast and whats so awesome about it.

Its too cold here, I'm from NC, but I visited Boston during the winter and it was fucking crazy cold. Last time I saw it, Svitak is from Ohio, not even near the east coast, I think its a midwestern state man.

when i was a kid i always dreamt of moving out to cali when i got older watching all the videos, seeing all the spots and the pros and everything. as ive gotten older and traveled to california and around the country a bit i have grown to love the east coast. the spots aren't blown out, they dont all look the same, there is just so much more personality here. i remember when i was younger watching vids and thinking "man cali is the place to be, its always sunny and the footage looks so good, here the footage is always grey". I'm like the opposite now, of course in the winter like now, i'm hating being here in northern va, because of all the snow, but i have no desire to travel to california anymore, or really anywhere past texas. DC, Philly, NYC, and NC have plenty of amazing spots. When those get old there is always Miami, Nashville, and ATL, even Ohio has a lot of sick spots. I would take all of those places to travel before the west coast.

Growing up in NC I always found it funny how the term "east coast" is extremely vague for no reason.  Sometimes it means Maine to Miami, other times they are only talking about Boston to DC. Ohio and Kentucky are thrown in there sometimes even though its not even touching the Atlantic ocean.

but yeah, Vintage Popps, Gay winters, DIY southeastern spots, Jake Johnson, trips to Philly, angry italians and hilarious black people.

I like the cold. I like skating around in the cold in winter and being the only bum that's having fun outside.

Me too.... if there's not piles of snow everywhere.

words of wisdom from the Snackman:

93. 411 profiles Jason Dill for “A Day in the Life” – 2002:
411’s Dill profile showed the world that wintertime for New York skateboarders over the age of twenty-one pretty much consists of getting coffee, wearing heavy jackets, eating pancake specials on Grand Street, smoking cigarettes, and hanging out at the Fish. Meanwhile, there were thirty fifteen-year-olds at the Seaport doing kickflip back tails on boards that look like waterlogged 2 x 4’s and 47mm wheels.

Sweating is bad, but hitting the cold pavement palms open takes it.

I like to perfect my hand-sewing, I've been asking all of my friends if they have some holes that need patching/closing. It's a great stress reliever.

1031, you're a dork.

but anyway, we all agree east coast kills it.  but i feel like if i didn't grow up here, i wouldn't want to move here--on paper it doesn't sound too good.  up north, it snows for months: harsh ground from snow.  down south, it's 100 degrees for 5 months out of the year, it rains every day during the summer: harsh ground from rain and heat.  but screw it (i was going to type "but fuck" but then realized the consequences of my actions), i wouldn't rather be anywhere but the east coast.  i love skating a spot and someone from somewhere else is like, "what the fuck these spots all suck, they're not even real spots, plus you can't even roll."  meanwhile it's not even an issue for me, i'm used to skating on fucking gravel.

i usually hate living on the east coast from about mid november till april

Basically. The best is when I would skate all bundled up catch wheel bite on a rock land on my hands and have rocks inside of it bleeding like crazy  ;) I snowboard twice a week because I'm older and my body feels like trash if I do nothing all winter then try and skate. Bottom line is there is like zero decent parks so even when I want to skate there is no were to skate nowadays near me all year round. The west has it good  :-[
