Television journalists see life as bursts of distinct, discontinuous events, however much we may live it as a steady hum. TV is better at telling us “the way it is” than at threading together the several ways things might seem to be, as seen by different cultures or religions or kinds of men. American television news, like the rest of American journalism, is scrupulously “objective” –which means it does not challenge the prevailing biases of a predominantly white, Judeo-Christian, imperial, internationalist, capitalist society.
