This makes me miss the city so much. Dela's ollie over the street gap is sick. You can tell he was flying down that hill and hucked himself over that thing.

God damn, that bs flip at the federal banks is fucked. I need to meet up with some SF slap pals and get at these spots, the only dudes I occasionally skate with are my fellow AAU students and honestly, they're whole mentality is "PARTY FUCKING PARTY."

Yeah, that is fucked. I feel like a badass just for carving over the bar on that thing. Danny Fuenzalida is so amazing.

What's funny is that almost all those spots are either total busts, in super crowded public areas, someone's house or - if none of the above - way less fun/harder to skate than they look.

Which gives you a general idea of what "spots" in SF are like...

Pretty sick article. I love living in SF, and always finding new shit to skate everywhere. For that ben gore photo though, i always thought diamond heights was up off diamond st, like up from glen park but before twin peaks area, idk. So many little neighborhoods, never know where they start or end.

I grew up skating SF, dude - I think I can speak on it. And no, not all cities are the same - that's why SF is so cool, but there's downsides to it as well.

Just thought I'd just offer a little advice to dudes coming in from out of town: those spots you've seen in the videos are gnarly as fuck, and chances are, if you linger for more than a trick or two, you'll with be dealing with an irate homeowner or the SFPD and their "zero tolerance" policy (plus a hefty ticket).

To me the hills are the whole point of skating in SF: bombing through the avenues, hitting different spots for a trick or two and moving on. THAT is what SF has that other cities don't.

this whole thread makes me feel like a bitch for skating the same spots whenever I'm in SF.

Oh well, I'll be there in two weeks and I'll still go skate Ft. Miley

There was a website that attempted this kind of thing for New York, but it was pretty bad, just bland snapshots of ledges and banks. The sick spot photos combined with the short descriptions of the surrounding neighborhoods is what is interesting to me. I've never been to SF, but I've always been into studying maps of places since I was a kid, so this thing is great, and I wish there was more.

Really good article. Can't wait to go to skate SF in the next couple of years. Is there any chance of doing the same sort of article on other places? Like NY or something?

The Jeremy Reeves, fakie 360 flip at Portola is my favorite though. That trick is hard yet alone over a wall.

I agree with you entirely except for the "way less fun" part in your first post. Every hill spot is way more awesome than I imagined. Way tougher than I thought, but so much fun.
And yeah, SF to me is all about going through neighborhoods and just bombing through and hitting the random spots along the way.
To all of you thinking of going out there and skating those exact spots in the hills, don't even bother- just look for a neighborhood that looks like it has some cool architecture, and just bomb around and find your own shit. I have found spots way more fun on my own that have never been in any videos I have seen, and also gone to the "famous" spots just to be disappointed at how bland of a spot it was in person compared to what I thought it would be.

Pretty sure it is. That area that its on in the map is like soma/mission/potrero hill.

I hate leaving that place whenever I'm heading home. Adrian's big flip... was really fucking big... good shit. Humidity skateshop in NOLA did a spot map for a while. I wouldn't mind making a really comprehensive one for Baton Rouge.

...and skating in SF is fucking dope! I haven't been hip up by cops over there, but the security guards that kicked us out were pretty typical. Also, as an outsider, once you've rolled around some of the hills you respect footage of them a LOT more. A lot of them are so steep that they just don't make sense. Love that place.

I heard that Hunter's Pt. was really sketchy...but also heard that gentrification was going on.  Is there a new area that is getting worse?
