"Detroit electro-techno outfit Drexciya was conceived in 1989, but first came into the public eye in 1994 with "Aquatic Invasion" - the first of a thematic series of releases. Drexciya's James Stinson and Gerald Donald remained hidden behind their alias for much of the group's existence, communicating a complex personal mythology of a "Drexciyan" race of underwater dwellers descended from pregnant slave women thrown overboard during trans-Atlantic deportation. Within this fiction, their music - which they claimed was recorded "live in the studio" rather than programmed - was imagined as a "dimensional jumphole" between their black African roots and the contemporary USA.

Sadly Stinson died suddenly on 3rd September 2002 of a heart condition. Donald continues to produce music under other names."

not sure how into making your own electronic music some of you are, but i came across this series of videos that gives a good step by step framework of sound synthesis and design.  its pretty interesting and very informative, albeit VERY dated looking, but if you're interested in making your own stuff from scratch its pretty invaluable.

if you're referring to my 'dark psy'- post, i completely agree - it was more an info about the existance of this than a hint...

awesome, thats what i'be been using for the past year!!!  its can be really complex, but its really fucking powerful, intuitive, and deep.  i seriously check an elektron message board as much as i check slap just to keep up on it.  it was really frustrating at first, but once you get the hang of it super intense.  i haven't even used it yet as a live sampler; i have about 80 drum machines sampled in folders and am just using it as a step sequencer/drum machine, and i've got it sequencing on all of my synths.  haven't touched ableton in about a year; now i'm doing everything on the box.  you can also assign parameter changes to the crossfader so you can get all kinds of crazy results live and in real time that you can never get in a computer.  definitely check it out, you're gonna have a lot of fun!

for the recreational music maker or the type of person who wants to make shitty music but entertain themselves, i suggest getting a kaossilator. i've had one for two months now and i still haven't got sick of it
