I feel like everyone should be shown an old Powell video by an older relative, no mater that it be ten years older now that when I was shown them. Seeing that and then staying up at night catching glimpses of the X games on tv I just couldn't link the two in my head. a combination that left me confused but still fascinates.

or any of the tiltmode Vids, or the jerry and Louie re edit from that osiris video, the one when boulala was on?

I'd just put yeah right on. I think most kids would get into a video like that because it's got a lot going on with the whole way it was put together and all. Kids would probably love seeing that as a first full length skate video.

yeah i agree, with the whole invisible board shit too.
skating is all about choosing your outfit very deliberately, going out in public. looking super sick. and then riding your board a little bit

For someone who's just getting into skateboarding I'd show them a nutty old Plan B Rodney Mullen part...  Those were my favorite parts to watch starting out because Rodney has always and is different than anyone else out there.  Those parts showed me that even if all I had was an empty parking lot to skate that the sky was still the limit.

an ollie trick tip. I personally wouldn't want to show a kid a part and be like" this is how you should skateboard". That's whats wrong with 90% of faggots on slap. someone else formed their opinion for them.

the first video my friends and i got a hold of was actually the old 411vm trick tips video.   the one with kareem campbell doing kickflips, ed templeton doing grinds and reynolds doing manuals.   we watched that over and over.  we had already seen one or two actual skateboard videos at that point, but there was so much going that we were overwhelmed.  we liked the trick tips because we could actually tell what the hell was going on.  a good trick tips video is not a bad start.

Keeping the Welcome to Hell vibe going:

My favorite part for years and years. Still ranks up there for me. Shit got me so stoked. And Titanium Expose is a fucking great song.

this is a great topic....I wasn't sure what would be a good video part to really introduce a kid to skating....so i figured I'd see what everyone else put, and try to make a better opinion...after all was said and done, there was nothing that hit home more that that Lavar McBride "Trilogy" part.  That made my fuckin day right there.  It's one of those video parts that humbles you and at the same time makes you just want to push down the street and SKATEBOARD, rather than the 1-trick "stunt" boarding I seem to see a lot....don't get me wrong, I'm not against big gap/handrail skating, but this just seems way more pure to me.  seems like something like that would really make a kid want to start skating.  the skating is clean, but is still fuckin insane.  there's a switch 360 flip in there, about half way through, that nailed it for me....that was it.  and considering how old the video is, it made it that much sicker....just my old ass throwin in my 2 cents...

Yeah it's great because it's lots of lines, stuff you can do in your own neighborhood, and mostly low-impact (with the exception of the Hubba Hideout stuff) so you won't break your head trying it.

My own of course!
So the kid can see it really can be done and it's not a video game.

Welcome to Hell is a good one maybe some old 411s or something.

I don't think showing a video is like telling someone how they should skateboard, its more like "holy shit people can do this on a skateboard, that's fucking great!"

Good call.  My friend and I were talking about our first videos from when we were in middle school.  Mine was fulfill the dream and I spent all my time trying all sorts of shit I had no chance of landing for years.  My buddy saw welcome to hell, which taught him to go fast, ollie and have good board control.

I might guess that you saw your first skate video/photo/magazine years after you started skating, also you didnt hear any commentaries from your friends about whats good or not and everytime you saw an x games commercial you changed the channel.

kids should have the right to know that there's more pros out there rather than just lutzka and sheckler;
And i would guess that you're an idiot.

Why have multiple people said the menace section of 20 shot? Everybody knows the BLIND section in that video was the best- Ronnie Creager, lil' Lavar Mcbride, Henry Sanchez... so good.

And Sleazy, good call on the Matt Rodriguez part.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”
