What part would you introduce to a kid?
« on: July 19, 2010, 10:27:25 PM »
What would be the first video or part you would show to a kid who is just learning how to skate. I would show them Mind Field or all of the Habitat vids.

an ollie trick tip. I personally wouldn't want to show a kid a part and be like" this is how you should skateboard". That's whats wrong with 90% of faggots on slap. someone else formed their opinion for them.

Basically all sorts of weird skating that they might not even realize people do. Let 'em know you can do pretty much whatever you want if you feel like it. They'll see plenty of ledges and gaps without any guidance. Besides, most people can't tell the difference between a kickflip and a nollie flip when they start.

I might guess that you saw your first skate video/photo/magazine years after you started skating, also you didnt hear any commentaries from your friends about whats good or not and everytime you saw an x games commercial you changed the channel.

kids should have the right to know that there's more pros out there rather than just lutzka and sheckler;

This is actually a fair point but there's a difference between showing some young kid something just to get them stoked and showing them it while saying how good it is compared to some other type of skating.

I'd just put yeah right on. I think most kids would get into a video like that because it's got a lot going on with the whole way it was put together and all. Kids would probably love seeing that as a first full length skate video.

Welcome to Hell is a good one maybe some old 411s or something.

I don't think showing a video is like telling someone how they should skateboard, its more like "holy shit people can do this on a skateboard, that's fucking great!"

yeah i thought this thread was asking what you would show a kid to get them interested in skateboarding, not a kid who's already interested and is trying to learn tricks.

as such, i think baker 3 would be a good one. say what you will about showing drug abuse to impressionable children or whatever, but my whole family sat through baker 3 entertained the entire time, it made it look fun and showed what was possible in skateboarding that someone who isn't familiar with it wouldn't know. they tried to watch strictly for skaters videos with me like the black box videos and were bored to tears. most of the older parts that people have mentioned fit that description of skater only audience, i doubt anyone would want to get into skating these days watching that ricky oyola part.

The puking session in Fucktards?

I'm gonna say Man Down also. There are so many other videos out there with better skating, but none of the others I can think of get across that feeling of hanging out with your friends and just having fun.

I would first show a kid a nice pair of tits, then warn him of man hands.

Tits are a good part of the female anatomy. I prefer a good ass, but for a kid, tits.
