why dont more skate shoe companies these days use lace loops?

I hat having my laces ripped after 2 or 3 sessions, and that can be prevented by using loops.

In the late 90s was standard, nowdays there are no skate shoes that offer that.

I dont want the late 90s moon shoes, I just want the lace loops.
Drop of super glue should do the job, can’t remember last time I’ve blew up laces after reading that tip from here.

I think about this all the time. It's such a simple feature.

Man I almost started a whole thread on this shit the other day. Lace protection seems like an afterthought for most of these shoe designs out there nowadays, which is baffling to me.

The slimmed down DC Lynx S that came out a few years ago had lace loops that worked perfectly, only problem was the ONE lace hole at the top that wasn’t a loop and since the cut of the shoe was so low, the lace ripped up there after a lot of heelflips

The NB# 533V2 have a solid alternative lace system, but aesthetically the shoe doesn’t look as good. Not a big deal, but looks do matter sometimes

The Vans UltraRange Pro has actually had some of the best lace protection simply by way of placement. The lace holes are more on top of the shoe and are just out of the way on Ollies & fliptricks. I skated that shoe for a while and never ripped any laces, and I only barely shredded them a little bit at the top with heelflips.

I think the second Koston Nike shoe had the laces placed out of the way too if I remember correctly. With all the innovation going on with skate shoes, you’d like doing stuff lace loops or better placement would be much more common

For some reason I was cursed with an excellent heelflip - I can pop them high, perfectly level, and make a smack noise when I catch them. I didn't ask for them, and I don't want them. Fuck heelflips. I'll take a decent 360 flip over them any day.

I had good luck with Vans Old Skools with the lace hole placement ending up more on top of my foot, and out of the way. Then they stopped making the Old Skool Pros with suede panels on the side (instead of canvas), and rendered them basically useless as a skate shoe model. Era Pros weren't bad either, but didn't fit me as well overall.

I never wore it, but the first Huf Dylan shoe (not the slip on) looked like it was probably good from a lace placement perspective as well.

It is. Skating a pair now and they’ve taken a bunch of abuse. Had to shoe goo them already a while ago but the laces are as good as new which never happens for me.

I rip laces even with the super glue trick. It’ll eventually wear that superglue down and then I need to put in new laces. Superglueing does lengthen the lifespan of laces by about 100 fold though.
