Flatspot resistant wheels
« on: September 29, 2010, 10:06:10 PM »
Has anyone tested them? Seems like most people say all wheels get them but more and more I see new models out that are "flat spot" resistant.....I was surprised to see Ricta actually put a video together to explain how Ricta wheels are tested and special.

its weird how wheel companies say that their wheels are flatspot resistant,
but theyre actually not, especially bones.
bones say that they guarantee 100% less flatspots,
but i still get them

Rubber spoon Yes. Bones are great though. Just stop reverting your tricks so much or flip them all the way, and you'll be good. Get all light footed and shit.

Im skating some bones STFs right now, and they've flat spotted once, but they pretty minimal and rode out in a day or two.

I'm rocking a set of some Bones STFs. Took em awhile but they flatspotted, but they've managed to kinda even out.

How are you just gonna tell someone to stop sliding and shit though? It's part of the fun, I slide everywhere. Flat spots don't bother me too much, when I'm hauling ass on really smooth ground it makes my board sound like a motorcycle or something.

If you're riding Bones STF's, they guarantee their wheels and you can get free replacements if you flatspot them. Can't remember where I read it, but hit them up with an email and include pictures, I bet they'll be friendly.

over the last 9 yrs i've never skated a wheel that didn't eventually flatspot. basically some last longer than others... and tho they claim to, darkstars are not in that "last longer" category. they burn out quick and if you try returnin em get ready for a 6 month wait for the new ones

Usually wheels will def flat spot at some point. Some way easier than others. Spitfires are absolutely garbage these days. When I was young they held up so well but now one tail slide in a bowl and they're done. Kinda a bummer. Was riding Bones park formula which is pretty sick but just couldn't take how bobo they look. Just way to white and chalky. Wheels shouldn't look like that. Lately had been riding OJ's which I totally love. Dig'n the shapes, hard to flat spot, so won me over. I actually just gave Ricta Superparks a go and those were pretty sick to. Looks like a normal wheel and could not flat spot them. Even tried just for shits and giggles and couldn't do it. Thumbs up on those ones.

I've skated multiple sets of the streetburners and have only flatspotted one set, and that flatspot rode itself out a session or two later.
I've had good luck with Pigs too, they don't seem to flatspot too often at all, but it does happen.

logically, all wheels can flatspot, but some wheels flatspot less. STF among them. ricta cores are also good.

I've skated board company wheels, a few pairs of spitfires, currently on my third pair of bones STF, all the others flatspotted super quick for me, the bones seem to last a good few months and still haven't flatspotted, I just like the smoothness of new wheels every now and then.

since im of the mind set that all wheels will flatspot if used properly.. i just go for the wheels that feel the best to me.
my favorite are the duro autobahns and spitfire clear cuts. (not the f1 crap.. maybe they are good park wheels?)

i've had other wheels that last longer then both of those. but they dont' FEEL as good to push, and do tricks on.

101/97a  54mm autobahns.. you can flat spot them if you want. but they are my fav's

I'm faithful to Bones.  They've always done me a solid.  The only time I've ever flat-spotted a set I was skating a bowl and I hit a pebble that wedged under my wheel and skidded one in there (threw me a few feet too)!  I think if anyone tried hard enough they could flat-spot any wheel but Bones put up a really good fight.

On that note I've haven't owned a single set of Spits that haven't flat-spotted after a couple of weeks.

no matter what wheels you purchase, they will eventually flatspot, bones are pretty good and i like the fact that they never turn yellow, but i prefer spitfires over  anything.
