A couple questions if I could...never used an orbital sander, anyway to remove the graphic and not the stain? Do i sand the whole thing and then restain a different color? Thanks guys

The stain goes all the way through the veneer, so no worry about removing the stain color when sanding. I use a paint stripper first, then once the majority of the graphic is removed, I'll use varying grits of sandpaper on my orbital sander starting at 150, then 180 and finish with 220 to get a smooth grain. I'll finish it off with a quick pass of hand sanding using a super fine grit sanding sponge and seal it with Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel.

I use this 5F5 stripper. It's a pretty thick, gel like consistency that goes on with a heavy coat. I let it work for 10 mins or so, then scrape off the sludge with a plastic putty knife... comes off no problem then just wipe away excess with paper towels. I'll let it dry in the sun for a bit if I can before sanding, but that not's completely necessary. Once you get it down, it's a pretty simple process.

I cant remember if I posted these or not, but heres some cruisers I printed.
The first one is a waterslide transfer, the second one is a direct to the wood print, using a digital printer and water based inks.

Dat was me.

The skelly guy was done on the DTG. Its by no means perfect. The basic problem is the concave on the deck, as it moves away from the print head (which does not have vertical movement) the print diffuses.
I saw some raaaaaad shit that Epson was doing with a device called a "DTO" printer. Direct to Object. It had a full XYZ axis. But thats the near future.

Sharon was done with a different process. I printed the image onto a waterslide transfer decal. Basically the same things as you get with model airplane kits. I mixed a special brew of fixative to make it adhere and push out the bubbles. Its way more tedious, but it yields good results. I printed the decal on the DTG, I want to try it on a proper high-end Epson, to get better results.

rad man, i used to screenprint for years, but now i am machining and am now moving from a 2 axis lathe to 3 axis mill so this kind of talk is right up my fuggin alley

Hey, so has anyone tried to cut DIY wheel wells? Making them uniform is proving difficult. I figure a lathe and some sort of jig, but wanted to see if any of y'all had had luck.

Initial attempts with a Dremel rotary cutter have yielded somewhat lackluster results.

i havent tried, but i think a 2” or so sanding drum chucked in a drill would work pretty well

If so could you share a pic of your jig?

I did not screen them, they're actually waterslide decals that I printed on an inkjet.
Next Im gonna try putting down a white registration square prior to applying the decal to get the colors to pop more, as I can't print white ink at home.
