SF skating
« on: November 25, 2010, 07:24:57 PM »
Whenever I go skate in San Francisco, I always end up at the same spots, 3rd and Army, Portrero, or the civic center area. I feel like I'm missing out on the real sf skating experience, what's the best area to go to and just skate around in not really looking for specific spots?

Sunset, west portal, richmond are good for house spots, same with every other hilly residential area. Financial district is dope too, just get away from market st.
Presidio has those gun turrets everywhere if you get near the ocean.
Golden gate park has a lot of little gems around it. Start around Kezar and the de young museum.

Not sure if anybody remembers, but Ramondetta had a two page spread of him doing a nose grind on a almost-flat-but-kinda-downhillish green rail. It's at a park on 26th and Harrison. There's a ledge that Busenitz back tailed off of Mullen (I laughed too) that's frontside for reggies, there's a whole bunch of shit inside some business park/ park across the street from the Modern Art Museum, I think thats on 3rd and Folsom or something like that.

And even though it might not be a skatespot, go to Laguna and Geary, which is Japantown, and buy yourself a $5 crepe. Seriously, best tasting thing EVER.

gipper, kilgore, and/or anyone else? you guys got any other spots your down to give me directions to? i got a week off work and am flying out to skate this month. i know all the main stuff (3rd army, ft. miley, flowershop, 3 up 3 down and others), i've explored sunset previously and would be completely stoked doing all that again. but it'd be mega rad and much appreciated if you guys had any other exact location gems for me? thanks in advance! and if anyones down to skate, let me know also!

I can help on that one. Taking the bart, get off on McArthur, then you go back towards the bay maybe 10 blocks on what I think is 40th, until you get to a new Target, and then you go behind it and go left and it's right there.

That;s in Emeryville, off highway 80. About 15 min from SF. While you are there, hit up Berkeley park or drive north more to richmond skate plaza.

Please bring me to spots. I, like so many others, just end up at the library. Or the DIY in Oakland (which is ok, it's my favorite place).

Silas owns that spot, he skates it in the old seasons videos.

Bush and Jones, downtown. It's just too easy to cruise down Jones to civic center.

pretty much anything downtown is fun but i wouldnt recommened emb and definitly not market it may seem like a good idea skating down it but it ends up not being very rewarding unless you want to play chess with a bunch of random homeless dudes

It's funny, skating down market used to be a blast in the 80s. There were a bunch of spots along the way, and all those marble benches every few feet.

I don't know if it's just that wheels are smaller now, or if those bricks got rougher, but it's a total pain to try to skate on that street now.

No one seems to skate the bay blocks as much anymore, but those are still super fun to me. China Banks has been bust-free the last few times I've been there, too.

But, as I've said many times, almost any city is better than SF for "spots." The hills and avenues are the whole point of going there.

Was just there yesterday, and noticed they've skatestopped that yellow ledge at Jefferson that so many tricks have gone down on. Another little bit of history gone...
