Haha, that's it! From now on, that's how I'm referring to the really little groms. I used to call them bumblebees but I like that better.

thats coz the average ledge is gonna be at least waist high for them, probably why i see so many kids skating curbs, keeps things in proportion

pretty sure nyah and sheckler could both skate ledgs (or curbs, gotta make it kid sized) at a young age.

when you see more dads that skate street, you'll see little kids ripping curbs. problem is most skate dads never skated or used to skate vert

even then nyjah was like 9 years old when he was doing ledge lines and Sheckler just recently started getting good at ledges.

it must feel cool to be that small and fly through bowls like that

HAHAHA...yeah that'd be like skating 20 foot transitions to him.  Big stuff is gonna feel tiny to him when he grows up.  Maybe there'll be mega ramp size bowls by the time he's a big guy.

Ugh, little kid steeze.

infant steeze is the worst

It just takes one i-level type sponsor to turn this kid off of skating.

Exactly. I knew a bunch of kids growing up who were AMAZING only to get distracted by a million other things besides skateboarding.

Let's just wait and see if this kid is even still skating in 6 or 7 years before everybody starts calling him the next Tony Hawk.

I agree.  There's nothing more distracting to your skateboarding than a pedophile for a sponsor.

It takes a hell of a lot less than that I-Level treacherousness to make people quit skating.

That is why I once started a thread in here on longevity--longevity being the quality that truly defines a skater. Jesus, here in the Detroit area, in the nearly thirty years I have been skating (street and tranny) so many skaters have come and gone, that it is difficult for me to recall all of the different generations and cliques that I have had the good fortune to skate with.

It is ridiculous in retrospect actually, and it is a perpetual cycle that any older "lifer" in here knows about, and that is why cocky, insecure younger skaters appear so starkly fatuous with their--ultimately self-defeating--hyper-criticalness and acute sensitivity to current trends.

It is sad to say, but once you have skated for a couple of decades, you know without a doubt that a shit load of the--currently--sickest, most talented, and most unnervingly critical skaters around you, will be gone in a couple of years (girls, drugs, school, cars, clubs, etc., and the inability to balance these things with the physical, social, familial, personal demands skating imposes on one).

I mean, a skater around here comes to mind who once skated for New Deal, and everyone was supposed to care about that, and he was a dick to all kinds of kids (and probably did his own part in discouraging plenty of other skaters), and dude went on one tour, and then was gone in a year or two--quit, and joined the marines or some such vacuousness.

Anyway, it is the lamentable side of skateboarding that wants to be football or baseball, that needs to say somebody is going to be "the next" whoever. Great, the kid is good--no doubt about it. That is the first step. I hope he keeps enjoying it, so he is still around in even one year, let alone ten.

also i dont think that becoming pro or am helps their passion to skate.

most skaters wanna skate when they want, where they want and how they want, if you get enough calls from your flimer like "yo dude wassup meet me at the drop spot in an hour to film a nollie fs heel" it can do your head in and make you not wanna skate.

alot of these up and coming kids would probably be skating longer if they didnt make a career out of it, but thats life and shit happnes so what you gonna do?

Kid rips. I like those lipslides and floating airs. However, the title of gnarliest 6 years old goes to Johnny and Luther Htoo

there is a kid at my skate park who used to watch me skate since he was a baby in the stroller, literally. his mom would stop on the side of the road and let him watch us skate. then he got boards and would come down the street and try and skate stuff with us.

anyway i kind of stopped skating in front of my house cause the park got built and my neighbour that i skated with we kind of had a falling out ... so anyway yeah i started seeing this kid at the park and he could boardslide the 6 stair handrail. he cant really do flip tricks yet, i think his legs are too small, but i was blown away. it took me like, a really long time before i was confident enough to skate a handrail.

the thing that kind of pissed me off is i asked him where he first saw skateboarding and he said "my friend neil showed me" but that is bullshit, i was def the one.
