it's not really folk per se, but you might be into the new Richard Buckner, M. Ward, Ben Weaver, or Micah P. Hinson.

not really folk but two gallants are amazing. woody guthrie? i guess you could call billy bragg folk. i don't know man. bands like defiance, ohio and this bike is a pipebomb are like folky punk. you can download all of defiance ohio's material for free of their website.

Yeah Defiance Ohio and This Bike is a pipe Bomb make good music that has a folk twinge to it. Woody Guthrie is amazing, I have a three album collection of his stuff. Also Leadbelly is really good, early folks/blues.

Really? haha, I had no idea that he was trendy.

my ex sent me a mix that had one of his songs on it, and out of the whole mix that song stuck out in my head so I bought the album and read up on the guy.

Anyways, I don't mean to harsh anyone's mellow, I just think this whole Devendra Banhart movement is shit.

I hope you guys are on some next-level shit, though, 'cause he is terrible.

you're talking about freak-folk and until now nobody had mentioned any.  no. i'm not into freak folk.  although i do like devendra's flamenco style guitar work, i can't stand his voice for the most part..

mipe: "bob dylan" is not folk? "the freewheelin bob dylan" is not folk?  "john wesley harding"?  "the times they are a changing?" are you kidding me?

I am so glad that I am to old to care what is "hipster" or not, I just like what I like and if others dig it cool if not, then no skin off my nose.

there's nothing fucking lamer then a folk show, and i like folk. who want to sit cross legged in a semi-circle while some d-bag who can't afford a guitar strap sits on a stool. i outgrew that after kindergarten.
