Calling all beat makers! calling all hip hop heads! tHIS IS NOT A DRILL!
This is the second installment of the SLAP PALS BEAT BATTLE-------

If you casually make beats, or if you're serious as hell, We want you
to participate! This is how it works

First thing: we'll need someone (not entered) to pick a sample out for contestants to work with (via youtube clip or downloadable link)
Next Thing: we'll vote on which sample (or samples) to use
Beat makers will slice, dice and loop their selected sample into a musical masterpeice
Finally: contestants post their beats and we'll vote on a winner

Prizes will include
-Gnars!
-One red thrasher sticker

-A gift bag of random awesomeness!!!
-Bragging rights!

Just as a refresher, here's the sample we chose during the last Beat Battle

So if anyone would kindly grant us with another sample I'll send a gnar your way.
Typically samples that don't have very much percussion work the best
that's so we can choose the tempo on our own.

Okay so we need someone (not entered) to just throw out a sample idea to us
Whatever you can think of, make it something silly like the whistle
song from the extenze comercials, or something obscure and cool like a soundtrack to
an old movie. fuck it , send up a ring tone. whatever you can muster up
we'll give it a shot!

Also, I'd really like to hear from old contestants and the old almost contestants

Thanks Cheep! Finally someone posted a sample! That guitar riff at the beginning is dopeness
but I don't think it's a long enough snippet for 5 or more beat makers to battle it out over.
However, I'm gonna throw something together with it and post it here anyways.

I've gone the facebook route and it seemed like my hip hop friends were never at their phones or computers and I was incapable
of explaining the sampling concept to my non-hip hop friends.The best I got out was someone posted a "house" sounding drum loop and another friend only asked if I he could get his beat maker friend in on the battle.

So screw facebook. I'm going to make this easy. Ever heard of Nina Simone?
I have but I'm not too familiar with her music. but I hear she's reeeeeeal "sampleable!"

I'm swamped with work and school for the next few of days

oh god. Im having problems with this one. Somehow since the song is in six, my beat turned out being in six...it sounds weird, I don't think I like it.

Yeah its the nina simone, It's hard tweak that thing and make it sound good in 4/4...maybe I'm just stupid but now I have a beat in 6.

Maybe we should look for another sample and one with less drums maybe?
This is turning out to be a lot more frustrating then the last time we did this.
