I don't know specifically about MACBA but a lot of modern Barcelona was planned in the mid  1970's after Franco died.  Their infrastructure and planning was really far behind because of his restrictive policies so once he died they went for it.  It is the period Sants came out of I believe.

I think they also built a lot of stuff prior to the Olympics in 92, and then just continued in the same fashion...

when i was in pittsburgh, i was skating around the univeristy of pittsburgh medical center building and basically every building belonging to the university had marble ledges with chunks cut out every foot, needless to say it still looked like shit.

When I see a new ledge that isn't skate stopped right away I am shocked.  It seems like they take skateboarding into account on most projects.

inNew Orleans we usually lose more spots to bum stopping than to actual skatestopping, theres spots where they 've removed all the benches in a square because bums, we used to have a pretty legit building downtown to skate called the Welfare Building then this bum tent city sprung up in the park right next to it so they sped up the process of tearing it down just so they could close the park and remove the tent city.

theres this spot in downtown Houston that we used to hit up when we would go there and the way they skatestopped the ledge was by chunking the whole thing to shit, it looked like bikers had been hitting it for 20 years. needless to say it worked.

Frank Hirata should chime in and explain why he skatestops skateparks.

Every architecture student I've met wants to support downtown development geared toward skateboarding/biking/walking and away from cars. They're happy to see skateboarders using architecture the way we do, and it's the city/business owners fucking things up.

I moved to a new town near Brisbane Australia. When I got here I scoped the place out and found pretty much the whole length of the foreshore in one section is lined either side with perfect concrete ledges of varying heights. To my displeasure they had like a chunk missing out of only the side corner you can skate about every foot, they also have a 45' edge. So I thought fuck these guys I'm gonna go down there with builders filler and un-skatestop a whole heap of ledges. I bought the shit to do it and in the meantime found a newer area that was even better to skate with the same varying ledges and some that were curved to. I have no idea why but none of them have chunks missing and they were made by the same people. Also luckily it's in a super quiet spot and can't be seen from the road, so it's like I have my own skatepark. These ledges have the 45' bevel to but it's maybe only 2cm wide and I don't think it really affects you that much once you get used to it and wax it right up.

That's why all the bums come to San Francisco. Here, they have found a place where the police will work tirelessly to return skatespots to the crackhead-infested urine-soaked vomit traps that they were before skaters had the audacity to use them for another purpose.

I think the real evil these days is those bumpy yellow handicap things that go in front of every driveway bump and curb cut. They've flat out destroyed damn near every street gap in SF with those things.

That dude was sick in the early '90s but if he made this he needs a pummeling.
